Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our non-profit organization in Kent, Ohio. This role focuses on grant-related accounting, financial accuracy, and regulatory compliance across a range of funding sources. The position works closely with leadership and external auditors to support sound financial reporting and maintain strong stewardship of public and private funds.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and post journal entries, reconcile accounts, and help complete monthly closing activities accurately and on schedule.
Oversee financial tracking for multiple grants and contracts, ensuring expenses are recorded correctly and aligned with funding requirements.
Maintain the general ledger for assigned areas and review transactions for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification.
Support compliance with state, federal, county, and other grant-related regulations through thorough documentation and consistent monitoring.
Assist with the preparation and review of grant reporting schedules, including materials related to the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards.
Partner with external auditors and regulatory reviewers by gathering records, answering questions, and resolving follow-up items efficiently.
Communicate financial information and grant status updates to stakeholders across the organization, including senior leadership.
Work on-site in the Kent, Ohio office Monday through Friday while contributing to day-to-day accounting operations and financial controls. Requirements
Experience in staff accounting, grant accounting, or nonprofit accounting environments.
Working knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger processes.
Familiarity with accounting for state and federal awards and related compliance expectations.
Experience preparing, supporting, or auditing the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards is strongly preferred.
Ability to manage multiple grants or funding sources while maintaining strong attention to detail.
Comfortable collaborating with auditors, regulatory agencies, and internal leaders at various levels of the organization.
Strong organizational, analytical, and written communication skills.
Availability to work on-site in Kent, Ohio on a Monday through Friday schedule.
