Job Description

Accountant About the Role This position serves as an essential accounting professional for a government entity. Reporting to Financial Services management, the Accountant handles district-wide bookkeeping, financial data analysis, and accounting operations across various funds, including the general fund, federal grants, and accounts. Operating on-site at the District Office, this full-time role combines core technical accounting, such as accounts payable, bank reconciliations, and journal entries, with customer service, providing guidance and system training to staff and department administrators.
Key Responsibilities Accounts Payable & Procurement:
Process vendor invoices, reconcile district purchasing card statements, review requisitions, and support public bidding and contracting procedures in compliance with procurement rules.
Cash Management & Reconciliations:
Perform daily bank deposits, monitor cash flow, execute transfers, reconcile bank accounts to the general ledger, and manage unclaimed property reporting.
General Ledger & Financial Reporting:
Classify revenue and expenditures, prepare month-end reconciliations, post journal entries, and assist with chart of accounts maintenance.
Grant & Special Fund Accounting:
Monitor student activity, food service, and athletic funds; track special revenue expenditures; and assist with grant fiscal reporting and audit documentation.
Fixed Assets & Inventory:
Maintain district fixed asset schedules, track capital expenditure reports, and update district inventory records.
District Support & Training:
Assist and train school personnel on financial software systems, troubleshoot accounting inquiries, coordinate district travel reimbursements, and support annual budget preparation. Requirements Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting, finance, business, or data analysis. Minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial data analysis. Proficiency with integrated financial software systems, spreadsheet modeling, and office technology. Ability to pass and maintain Oregon Fingerprinting and Criminal Background Check clearance. Coursework or background in governmental and fund accounting standards (GASB). Prior accounting experience within a school district, municipal government, or federal grant-funded environment.
