Job Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join our dynamic finance team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing core accounting functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and supporting financial reporting processes. Your expertise will help maintain the integrity of our financial data, facilitate accurate month-end close activities, and contribute to strategic decision-making. This position entails accounting functions for 4-5 companies with common ownership and privately owned. Looking for someone proficient in tax preparation, business and vehicle property tax, and an expert with Quickbooks. Duties Prepare and analyze journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet schedules to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records. Manage accounts payable and receivable processes using various financial software such as QuickBooks. Conduct detailed general ledger accounting and ensure compliance with internal controls, including SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) requirements. Support month-end and year-end closing activities by preparing financial reports and assisting with audit preparations. Assist with payroll management tasks utilizing systems like Paychex ensuring timely processing and accuracy. Perform data entry and Excel data analysis for budgeting, variance analysis, and financial forecasting purposes. Handle confidential information with integrity while maintaining high standards of accuracy in all accounting functions. Tax preparation, property tax, and vehicle tax filings. Skills Strong understanding of GAAP, governmental accounting standards, and technical accounting principles. Proficiency with multiple accounting systems such as Paychex, Microsoft Office (Excel spreadsheets), QuickBooks, or similar platforms. Experience with financial concepts including account reconciliation, journal entries, debits & credits, double-entry bookkeeping, and general ledger management. Knowledge of SOX compliance procedures and internal control processes. Excellent numeracy skills combined with attention to detail for accurate data entry and account analysis. Ability to perform Excel data analysis effectively using formulas, pivot tables, and other advanced features. Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks such as accounts payable/receivable management, bookkeeping, payroll processing, and tax-related activities simultaneously. Effective communication skills for customer service interactions within finance teams or external vendors.
