Job Description

Position Summary The Senior Accountant supports the financial operations of Dallas Baptist Association and its affiliated ministries, including Mt. Lebanon Baptist Encampment, Dallas Bible Theological Institute, and the Hispanic Theological Institute. This hands-on role coordinates month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, audit support, cash activity, and accounting administration while providing oversight of work performed by outside accounting and payroll providers. The Senior Accountant works closely with the Executive Director, camp leadership, ministry leaders, service providers, and auditors to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and useful. The position requires sound judgment, confidentiality, strong follow-through, and a service-oriented commitment to Christian stewardship. Essential ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Financial Reporting
  • Coordinate month-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and resolution of outstanding items.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, budget-to-actual reports, restricted-fund reports, and other financial information for leadership, committees, and boards.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger and financial records for DBA and affiliated ministries.
  • Monitor cash balances, record deposits and receipts, and coordinate or review bank and payment-platform reconciliations.
  • Assist with annual budgeting, budget monitoring, year-end close, and financial planning.
  • Serve as a financial resource to the Executive Director and ministry leaders and assist with other financial responsibilities as assigned. Payroll & Employee Benefits
  • Coordinate payroll processing with the outsourced payroll provider and review payroll reports, deductions, garnishments, taxable benefits, and related accounting entries for accuracy.
  • Maintain or coordinate authorized payroll and benefit changes and supporting records.
  • Assist with employee benefit and retirement plan administration, including enrollments, contribution changes, terminations, remittances, and provider requests.
  • Serve as an internal liaison with payroll, benefit, and third-party service providers. Accounts Payable & Financial Administration
  • Oversee invoice, reimbursement, vendor payments, and expense-management processes, including proper documentation, coding, and approval.
  • Coordinate payment processing through organizational systems and service providers, including limited manual checks when necessary.
  • Maintain vendor tax documentation and coordinate annual Form 1099 preparation and filing.
  • Maintain accurate records for contributions, designated and restricted funds, camp receipts, and other financial transactions. Audit, Controls & Compliance
  • Prepare schedules and documentation for annual audits, reviews, insurance audits, and other financial examinations and coordinate requests with external auditors.
  • Maintain practical accounting procedures, recurring calendars, supporting documentation, and system access records.
  • Support appropriate internal controls over cash, disbursements, payroll, journal entries, financial reporting, and system access.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding employee, donor, financial, and organizational information. Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required; bachelor's degree preferred. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including general ledger accounting, month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and sound internal-control practices.
  • Experience supporting budgets, audits, payroll-related accounting, or employee benefit administration.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn accounting, payroll, banking, and expense-management systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, accuracy, judgment, and follow-through.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and work primarily on site at Mt. Lebanon Camp.
  • Active participation in a Baptist church and demonstrated commitment to Christian principles and teachings professionally and personally. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with nonprofit, church, association, camp, or ministry accounting.
  • Experience with fund accounting, restricted funds, and multi-entity financial reporting.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, ACS, Ramp, ADP, or similar financial systems.
  • Experience coordinating with outsourced accounting, payroll, benefits, or audit providers. Success in This Position Looks Like
  • Accurate and timely monthly close, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Leadership receives understandable financial information needed for sound decisions.
  • Payroll, benefits, accounts payable, receipts, and provider-coordinated activities are reviewed and supported appropriately.
  • Audits and compliance requests are completed accurately and on time.
  • Accounting processes are documented, repeatable, and supported by appropriate internal controls.
  • Staff, vendors, churches, and ministry partners experience the Senior Accountant as professional, responsive, trustworthy, and helpful.

  • Office environment located primarily at Mt. Lebanon Camp and Retreat Center.
  • Regular use of a computer and standard office equipment; ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting or movement of ordinary office records and supplies.
Missional & Ministry Activities This position may be permitted up to one week of paid absence annually to participate in a mission trip or approved ministry activity, subject to approval by the Executive Director.
