Job Description

Accountant Help strengthen Vermont's communities through the power of housing. Downstreet Housing and Community Development is a nonprofit dedicated to creating affordable homes and connecting people to the resources they need to thrive. We believe safe, healthy housing is the foundation for strong, equitable communities and we're looking for a detail-oriented Accountant to help us deliver on that mission. The Role As a key member of our finance team, you'll handle day-to-day accounting functions and help keep our financial systems running smoothly. You'll work closely with our Finance Director and a team of three accountants to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and integrity in everything from tenant payments to vendor invoices. This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys working with numbers, systems, and processes, and who wants to see their skills directly support affordable housing in Central Vermont. What You'll Do Manage accounts receivable, including tenant payments and security deposits. Process invoices and payables through Bill.com, ensuring accurate coding and compliance with policies. Perform monthly account reconciliations and prepare journal entries for cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, and accruals. Maintain accurate records in Sage Intacct, integrated with Yardi and Fortress property management systems. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and support annual audits. Support special projects and help identify ways to streamline and improve accounting operations.
What We're Looking For Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred , or equivalent professional experience. At least two years of accounting experience; experience in nonprofit or property management accounting is a plus.. Proficiency with accounting and property management software; experience with Sage Intacct, Bill.com, Yardi, or Fortress is highly valued. Strong skills in Excel and attention to detail. Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple deadlines.
What We Offer Compensation:
$55,000-$60,000 annually for a full-time, 37.5-hour workweek. Relevant affordable housing experience will be considered when determining placement within the range.
