As a Senior Auto Appraiser, you will be responsible for the investigation, negotiation, evaluation, and appraisal of vehicle damage claims in the Detroit, MI area. This field-based role requires ensuring estimate accuracy in compliance with state laws and regulations, while delivering exceptional member service through clear communication and empathy. You will handle highly complex claims, utilising digital tools and collaborating with various stakeholders. What You'll Do as a Senior Auto Appraiser - Field Evaluate and appraise highly complex auto physical damage claims using digital tools, adhering to contract terms, corporate guidelines, and state regulations. Investigate claim damages by communicating with insured parties, internal claims adjusters, and third parties/vendors, including face-to-face interactions. Review facts of loss and vehicle damage to identify subrogation opportunities and ensure all supporting physical damage documentation is in the claim. Apply advanced knowledge of P&C insurance industry products, services, contracts, and internal processes to ensure compliance with laws and policy provisions. Review claims/suppliers for fraud indicators and refer to the Special Investigations Unit when applicable. Maintain accurate and current claim file documentation throughout the claims process for complex claims. Maintain high productivity standards through effective desk management, timely follow-ups, and accurate mapping of repair plans. Review additional damage received from repair facilities to complete supplements or triage to field provider inspection methods. Serve as a subject matter expert for disputed claims or trials and as a resource for team members on escalated issues. Partner with vendors and internal business partners to facilitate the resolution of highly complex claims, potentially involving external regulatory coordination. Proactively provide policyholders with information regarding coverage, repair estimates, total loss valuations, and the claims/repair process. Support workload surges and catastrophe (CAT) response operations, including mandatory on-call dates and potential evening, weekend, and/or holiday work. Be prepared for CAT deployment travel with minimal notice during designated CATs. Work various types of claims, including those of higher complexity, and undertake additional work outside normal duties as needed. Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures. Who We Are Looking For We are seeking a Senior Auto Appraiser - Field with a strong background in auto appraising and a comprehensive understanding of P&C insurance. The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge of estimating platforms like CCC and excellent communication skills to interact with various stakeholders. You should be prepared for a field-based role, which may involve physical demands and working in diverse environments. While not strictly required, an active Texas or Florida All-Lines Adjusters License, I-CAR ProLevel 3 certification, and prior experience as a Field Auto Appraiser are highly valued. Military experience is also a plus. Possess a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma. Have at least 2 years of auto appraising experience. Demonstrate proficient knowledge of P&C insurance policy contracts, coverages, auto parts distribution, and claim appraisal processes. Exhibit advanced working knowledge of estimating losses using CCC or similar estimating platforms. Show demonstrated written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with members, claimants, and repair facilities. Acquire and maintain an insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts. Be able to operate a company vehicle within an assigned territory and meet USAA safe driving requirements. Be capable of reaching, handling, squatting, bending, climbing, and kneeling as needed for vehicle inspections. Be prepared to work outdoors in inclement weather and in body shop/salvage yard environments up to 25% of the time. Hold an active Texas or Florida All-Lines Adjusters License (preferred). Possess I-CAR ProLevel 3 (Platinum) certification or be actively pursuing it (preferred). Have experience as a Field Auto Appraiser with a Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance carrier (preferred). Demonstrate experience and ability to prepare estimates and evaluations using the CCC estimating platform (preferred). Exhibit experience and ability to balance writing accurate collision repair estimates in both virtual and field environments (preferred). Be able to deploy on CAT when needed (preferred).
