Job Description

Accounting & Financial Support Specialist - Temp (3-4 months)
Location:
Mill Spring, NC Pay Rate:
$20/hr About the Role We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Accounting & Financial Support Specialist for a temporary assignment supporting a premier non-profit organization in Mill Spring, NC. Reporting directly to the finance department, this role provides critical administrative and general accounting support to ensure smooth facility operations, accurate financial recordkeeping, and seamless resident admissions and care transitions. What You Will Do Prepare and post routine journal entries while assisting with monthly bank, credit card, balance sheet, and income statement reconciliations. Generate and distribute monthly departmental income statements and prepare weekly AR trend reports for leadership. Prepare discharge and end-of-period accounting records for CFO review and approval. Assist with monthly sales/use tax reporting and compile semi-annual North Carolina non-profit sales tax refund claims (NCDOR). Build financial worksheets to determine patient liability and out-of-pocket costs for clients utilizing commercial insurance. Maintain logs tracking client movement between programs, insurance claim submissions, payment statuses, authorizations, and peer review schedules. Review service agreements for accuracy, manage DocuSign workflows, and maintain updated financial agreements. Serve as an empathetic point of contact for families regarding invoicing, billing inquiries, and past-due account balances. Record and post charitable donations in Salesforce and assist the Accounts Payable team with vendor invoices and payment runs.
What You Will Bring:
Education & Experience:
Associate degree in Accounting or Finance required (Bachelor's degree preferred) with a minimum of 2 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience within a non-profit, healthcare, or residential treatment setting.
Core Competencies:
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or EHR systems), MS Excel, Salesforce, and DocuSign, paired with specialized knowledge of health insurance authorizations, patient liability workflows, and NC non-profit sales tax refund processes.
