This full-time position has benefits and a flexible, condensed 4.5-day workweek. We enjoy weekends so much that we start them at noon on Fridays! Each of us has a direct impact on the success of the company. Collaboration, information sharing, training, and transparency with one another make Welch Comer unique and successful, with a positive impact on our communities. Who are we looking for? Welch Comer Engineers is seeking a full-time Accounting Specialist I to join our finance and administration team. This is primarily an accounting position that also provides limited front-office and office-coordination support. Our WA office has limited client traffic, allowing the employee to focus primarily on accounting, billing and project-system responsibilities. We hire people who are hungry, humble, and smart. Hungry means you go looking for the next thing instead of waiting to be assigned it. Humble means you'd rather get it right than get credit, and you'll ask a question three times if that's what it takes. Smart, to us, is about people: reading the room, knowing when a project manager needs an answer now versus tomorrow, and making your teammates' work easier. And because everyone here owns a piece of this company, we look for people who think like owners. That's not a slogan on a wall. It means noticing when an invoice has been sitting too long, asking why a process takes four steps when it could take two, and caring about the answer because the answer shows up in your own share balance at the end of the year. How will you contribute? Primary duties include but are not limited to: Preparing and processing client invoices and payments. Compiling, entering and verifying project-related mileage, copy and reproduction charges, and other billable units. Accounts payable entry; overhead and contract subconsultant invoices. Compiling, organizing and voucher entry of credit card charges. Entering and maintaining vendor, client billing and project information in the accounting system. Preparing standard accounting reports, spreadsheets and supporting schedules. Performing basic reconciliations and assist with researching billing, payment and record discrepancies. Maintaining organized electronic accounting and project records. Assisting the Accounting Specialist II and Director of Finance with accounting projects and other assigned responsibilities. General office and administrative support such as greeting clients, phone, supplies, and scheduling. Additional administrative and accounting tasks and projects as assigned. Qualifications and experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Accounting coursework or an associate degree is helpful but not required; relevant experience may substitute for formal education. One to three years of accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable, billing or related office experience is preferred. Genuine attention to detail and commitment to accurate data entry and documentation. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite. Dependable, with time management skills to organize multiple responsibilities and deadlines. Clear, professional written and verbal communication with both teammates and clients. Sound judgment and discretion with confidential financial and employee information. Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or similar project-based accounting software is a plus, but we will train the right person. Experience in the engineering, architecture, or construction industry is a plus, but not a requirement. Who is Welch Comer Engineers? With over 40 years serving Northern Idaho and Eastern Washington, Welch Comer is a specialized firm with two offices (Coeur d'Alene, ID and Spokane Valley, WA) that doesn't answer to a detached corporate headquarters. We get to help our clients and the public in a manner that fits our culture. Our tight-knit team of engineers, surveyors, CAD designers, and administrative and financial staff focuses on making our communities better and safer. As a 100% employee-owned company, we all have a stake in Welch Comer's success. We truly move forward together. Who do we hire? The average tenure at our company is 11 years. When people come to Welch Comer, they stay. Our staff is collaborative, community-oriented, technically proficient, and entrepreneurial-minded. Hiring and keeping quality people has been critical to our longevity and success. Summary of benefits offered upon eligibility Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP): earn company shares at no cost to you. 401(k) plan with safe harbor matching. Year-end bonus opportunity based on company profitability. Health, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance. Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA). Short and long-term disability insurance. 8 paid holidays and paid time off. Wellness Program and Employee Assistance Program. Training and professional development support. We'd rather teach you than replace you. Position type and expected hours of work This is a full-time, non-remote position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This position is non-exempt (hourly). Hours over 40 per week are paid at 1.50 times the employee's hourly rate. This position rarely requires longer hours, though occasionally some additional time may be needed.
