Position Overview At Christ the King , we view the faithful stewardship of our financial resources as critical to serving our mission and ministry. We are seeking an experienced, tech-savvy, detail-oriented, and professional Church Bookkeeper to manage our daily financial operations, digital giving ecosystems, and monthly/annual reporting processes. This is a critical staff position that ensures accuracy, compliance, and absolute transparency for our church community. Key Responsibilities
Financial Management:
Maintain the general ledger utilizing ParishSOFT Accounting software.
Digital Transaction Oversight:
Monitor, manage, and process incoming digital transactions across multiple platforms including Tithe.ly, PayPal, Venmo, and standard ACH transfers.
Data Reconciliation:
Synchronize, update, and reconcile accurate donor records between SimpleChurch and ParishSOFT Accounting .
Financial Reporting:
Prepare comprehensive monthly balance sheets, income statements, and specialized fund trading reports for leadership review.
Payroll & Tax Compliance:
Manage staff payroll distributions and maintain strict adherence to federal, state, and local tax requirements.
Audit Preparation:
Organize, catalog, and maintain clear records to facilitate smooth annual internal audits. Core Duties & Tasks
- Process and pay accounts payable bills efficiently and record weekly deposits.
- Direct unique or non-routine financial questions directly to the Executive Committee .
- Reconcile all corporate credit cards, bank accounts, and digital statement registers monthly.
- Prepare and file all mandatory church tax returns and forms (including W-2s , Form 941 , and Wisconsin WT-7 ).
- Prepare all documentation required for the annual workers' compensation insurance audit.
- Generate and distribute regular financial giving statements directly to church members.
- Accurately create and file annual Forms A and C with the ELCA synod. Qualifications & Skills
Experience:
Proven prior professional bookkeeping experience, with direct experience in non-profit or house-of-worship fund accounting strongly preferred.
Technical Expertise:
Demonstrated proficiency running ParishSOFT Accounting , SimpleChurch , and handling digital platforms like Tithe.ly , PayPal , and Venmo .
Soft Skills:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with razor-sharp attention to detail.
