CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER A
well-established, multi-entity heavy civil construction contractor is seeking a full-time Chief Financial Officer. The company offers competitive compensation, low-cost health insurance, company-paid life insurance, matching 401(k), paid time off, and eligibility for an annual performance-based executive bonus. The Chief Financial Officer must have a strong background in construction accounting and financial leadership within a large, multi-entity organization. This individual must be capable of leading accounting personnel, working independently, and collaborating with company leadership and operations to maximize financial performance and support positive results in a large, fast-paced construction company.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate accounting department personnel while establishing clear performance expectations and efficient workflows
  • Manage and review Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Senior Accountant functions across multiple entities
  • Provide the President with regular financial analysis and visibility into cash flow, regional risk, and profitability
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes for all operating entities
  • Oversee intercompany eliminations, joint ventures, and consolidated financial reporting
  • Manage banking and surety relationships to optimize credit lines and strengthen corporate bonding capacity
  • Oversee corporate filings, tax schedules, regional nexus requirements, and state and local tax compliance
  • Oversee multi-state payroll for a large field and office workforce
  • Ensure compliance with certified payroll, prevailing wage, and Davis-Bacon reporting requirements
  • Maintain Work-in-Progress schedules and oversee percentage-of-completion revenue recognition across active projects
  • Partner with operations to monitor equipment allocation, utilization rates, and heavy-equipment depreciation schedules
  • Ensure financial reporting and accounting practices comply with GAAP and applicable construction-industry standards
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required; master's degree preferred
  • CPA license or Certified Construction Financial Professional designation strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive construction-accounting experience
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a Controller-level position
  • Proven experience managing accounting personnel in a complex, multi-entity organization
  • Advanced hands-on proficiency with Deltek ComputerEase and HCSS HeavyJob required
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, AIA billing, retainage management, and GAAP
  • Experience with multi-state construction regulations, certified payroll, prevailing wages, and Davis-Bacon requirements
  • Excellent leadership, written and verbal communication, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Must be available to work 100% onsite at either the Buffalo, NY or Rochester, NY area offices
Salary Range:
$135,000-$175,000 per year, commensurate with experience The company's identity will be shared with qualified candidates selected to advance in the hiring process.
