Job Description

Product Safety & Compliance Engineer IIILocation:

$100k-$120k Position SummaryA global transportation technology and manufacturing company is seeking a Product Safety & Compliance Engineer III to lead regulatory compliance and product-safety activities for transit bus products.

This senior individual-contributor role will serve as a technical authority for
FMVSS, CMVSS, ADA
accessibility, FTA-funded procurements, and applicable APTA requirements. The engineer will work with Engineering, Quality, suppliers, customers, testing laboratories, and regulatory stakeholders to ensure compliance is incorporated throughout product development.

ResponsibilitiesInterpret and apply FMVSS requirements under 49 CFR Part 571.Evaluate product compliance with applicable CMVSS requirements.

Lead ADA vehicle-accessibility compliance under 49 CFR Parts 37 and 38.Support compliance requirements for FTA-funded transit bus procurements.

Review customer specifications and applicable APTA requirements.

Complete product-safety and regulatory compliance assessments.

Define verification strategies and approve compliance test plans.

Review test results, technical documentation, and compliance evidence.

Identify and manage product-safety and regulatory risks.

Partner with Engineering and Quality to incorporate compliance requirements into product designs.

Coordinate compliance activities with suppliers and outside testing laboratories.

Serve as a subject-matter expert for customers, regulators, and legal counsel.

Maintain accurate and defensible regulatory documentation.

QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or a related engineering discipline.

Seven or more years of experience in product safety, regulatory compliance, or regulated vehicle engineering.

Hands-on experience interpreting and applying FMVSS or CMVSS requirements.

Working knowledge of ADA accessibility requirements for transit vehicles.

Experience developing verification plans and reviewing compliance evidence.

Strong technical writing and documentation skills.

Ability to interpret regulations, customer specifications, and engineering requirements.

Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills.

Experience working with engineering teams, suppliers, customers, and testing laboratories.

Preferred ExperienceTransit bus, commercial vehicle, rail, or transportation-equipment experience.

Familiarity with FTA-funded procurements and APTA standards.

Experience communicating with regulators or legal counsel regarding compliance matters.

Background in systems engineering, safety engineering, or product validation.
