Cannabis Compliance Manager Job Description Role Overview The Cannabis Compliance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the organization's cannabis compliance program to ensure adherence to applicable state, local, and company requirements. This role supports licensed cannabis operations by maintaining compliant standard operating procedures, managing regulatory documentation, monitoring seed-to-sale and inventory controls, supporting packaging and labeling compliance, leading internal audits, coordinating employee training, and helping protect the organization's license and reputation. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and update cannabis compliance policies, standard operating procedures, internal controls, and employee guidance.
• Monitor operations to ensure compliance with applicable state and local cannabis laws, licensing rules, municipal requirements, company policies, and industry standards.
• Oversee seed-to-sale tracking, inventory reconciliation, product movement documentation, and required recordkeeping using state-approved tracking systems such as METRC or equivalent platforms.
• Conduct routine compliance audits, facility inspections, risk assessments, and control reviews across cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, delivery, and/or retail operations, as applicable.
• Review packaging, labeling, product onboarding, advertising, promotions, and consumer-facing materials for regulatory compliance before use or distribution.
• Prepare, organize, and maintain documentation needed for license renewals, regulatory inspections, incident reporting, audits, and corrective action plans.
• Investigate potential compliance violations, inventory discrepancies, security issues, employee concerns, or regulatory notices; document findings and recommend corrective actions.
• Track changes in cannabis regulations and communicate operational impacts, policy updates, and training needs to leadership and staff.
• Design and deliver compliance training for employees, managers, and contractors on SOPs, inventory controls, security protocols, recordkeeping, product handling, and responsible operations.
• Serve as a point of contact for regulators, auditors, inspectors, legal counsel, vendors, and internal stakeholders on cannabis compliance matters.
• Partner with operations, security, quality assurance, finance, HR, and legal teams to strengthen compliance systems and reduce risk.
• Promote a culture of accountability, ethical conduct, accuracy, and inspection readiness throughout the organization. Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in business administration, law, regulatory affairs, public policy, criminal justice, agriculture, science, finance, or a related field preferred.
• Three to five or more years of experience in cannabis compliance, regulatory compliance, risk management, audit, quality assurance, controlled inventory, security, or licensed operations preferred.
• Working knowledge of cannabis regulations, licensing requirements, inspection processes, inventory tracking, product labeling, recordkeeping, and facility operating controls.
• Experience with METRC or another state-approved seed-to-sale tracking system strongly preferred.
• Experience creating SOPs, conducting audits, leading corrective action plans, training staff, and preparing documentation for regulatory review.
• Professional certification in compliance, risk management, quality systems, food safety, GMP, HACCP, ISO, or a related discipline preferred, depending on the operation. Required Skills and Competencies
• Excellent judgment, integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail in a highly regulated environment.
• Strong understanding of controlled inventory processes, documentation practices, chain-of-custody expectations, and inspection readiness.
• Ability to interpret cannabis regulations and translate requirements into clear operating procedures and training materials.
• Strong analytical, investigative, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to train employees and advise leadership on compliance risks.
• Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, renewals, audits, and operational priorities.
• Proficiency with seed-to-sale tracking systems, compliance management tools, point-of-sale or inventory systems, reporting platforms, Microsoft Office, and related business applications.

Work Environment and Expectations The Cannabis Compliance Manager works closely with licensed operations teams and senior leadership to support compliant, ethical, and efficient business practices. The role may require work in cultivation, manufacturing, warehouse, delivery, or retail environments; participation in regulatory inspections; periodic travel between licensed facilities; and prompt response to time-sensitive compliance matters. The position requires comfort working around cannabis products where permitted by law and strict adherence to company safety, security, confidentiality, and recordkeeping standards.

Pay:

$80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
