Job Description

Job Description Help for Job Description. Opens a new window. How You Can Help Us Make a Difference As a Code Compliance Officer, you'll play an important role in helping keep our community safe, attractive, and a great place to live and work. You'll spend much of your day in the field inspecting residential and commercial properties, responding to concerns, and working with property owners, contractors, and residents to understand County codes and find practical paths toward compliance. Your work will include investigating potential violations, conducting follow-up inspections, documenting findings, preparing notices and case materials, and taking appropriate enforcement action when necessary. You'll also help educate the public by explaining code requirements, answering questions, and providing guidance on corrective actions. When cases require additional action, you may present findings before the Code Enforcement Board, Licensing Board, Special Magistrate, or in court. This is more than an enforcement role—it is an opportunity to solve problems, build positive relationships, protect neighborhoods, and make a visible difference throughout the community. If you enjoy working independently, interacting with people, navigating complex situations, and balancing excellent customer service with consistent application of regulations, this could be a rewarding next step in your career. Your Purpose & Day-To-Day Journey Your day as a Code Compliance Officer is all about balancing knowledge, good judgment, organization, and strong communication to help our community thrive. You'll navigate County zoning, building, land development, and contractor licensing regulations while using your expertise to evaluate situations, interpret requirements, and help residents, property owners, and contractors understand what is needed to achieve compliance. Throughout your day, you'll manage multiple cases and priorities, review zoning plats and property information, document your findings, take digital photographs, prepare reports and correspondence, and maintain accurate case records. You'll use technology and a variety of software applications to keep your work organized and moving forward while meeting important deadlines and objectives. Just as important as knowing the codes is knowing how to work with people. You'll communicate with residents, contractors, coworkers, managers, and other agencies—sometimes in challenging situations where professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment matter. Whether you're answering a question, explaining a regulation, providing guidance, or determining the appropriate next step in a case, you'll have the opportunity to turn complex requirements into clear information and positive solutions. If you're organized, resourceful, comfortable working independently, and able to combine attention to detail with exceptional customer service, you'll find a role where no two days are exactly alike—and where your knowledge and decisions can make a meaningful difference in the community you serve.
