We are looking for an experienced Director of Accounting to lead core accounting functions for a complex, multi-entity organization in Southern California. This remote Long-term Contract position is ideal for a hands-on leader who can strengthen financial operations, guide a high-performing team, and deliver accurate reporting in a dynamic environment. The role will work closely with cross-functional partners and senior leadership to support business performance, compliance, and process improvement.

Responsibilities:

Direct daily accounting activities across the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of six accounting professionals, fostering accountability, growth, and strong execution. Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes while driving improvements that increase efficiency and shorten reporting timelines. Manage accounting activities for multiple legal entities, including intercompany balancing, shared cost allocations, and consolidated reporting. Prepare and review reporting tied to debt covenant obligations to help ensure timely and accurate compliance. Investigate and resolve accounting, reporting, and workflow challenges associated with a recent organizational system conversion. Collaborate with FP& A, Asset Management, and executive stakeholders to address reporting needs and support operational decision-making. Maintain accurate financial records and reinforce internal controls to support reliable reporting across the organization. 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including substantial responsibility in leadership roles. Strong command of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting standards, and month-end close management. Proven background in multi-entity environments with significant intercompany accounting complexity. Experience in asset-intensive sectors such as renewable energy, utilities, infrastructure, commercial real estate, or manufacturing is preferred. Prior involvement with ERP implementations or post-launch accounting stabilization efforts is highly valued. Advanced Excel skills and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-moving, evolving business setting. Practical experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting, and intercompany accounting.
