NOTE:

  • Under general supervision, serves as a primary resource person responsible for the management of assigned financial aid program(s).
  • Conducts periodic outreach services to high schools, college explorations/orientations, community and civic groups, and affiliated learning institutions (e.g., libraries) to promote financial aid and higher education through Leeward Community College.
  • Provides general information regarding college student financial aid to public, agencies, University of Hawaii offices and campuses. Provides informational support and resources to high school and college counselors and admission officials.
  • Performs the analysis, financial need and eligibility for specific financial aid for potential, applying, and continuing students to ensure accessibility to higher education.
  • Assists in preparing funding proposals for Federal and State financial aid funds.
  • Provides financial aid counseling/advising to prospective and current student in regards to applying for federal and state financial aid as well as external and private sources of assistance and assists in completion of required forms and applications.
  • Assists in implementing office procedures, requirements and guidelines for processing of all applications.
  • Monitors and evaluates students' continued eligibility for aid based on academic progress as specified by Federal guidelines and campus policies.
  • Develops and updates office procedures to effectively administer assigned program(s) insuring compliance with applicable federal/state/institutional regulations.
  • Establishes procedures to evaluate the consistency of information reported on application forms pursuant to Federal verification regulations. Recommends institutional policies to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations.
  • Develops, improves, and maintains an online computerized financial aid database management and informational retrieval software system.
  • Assists in preparing and submitting annual reports and other special reports required by funding agencies.
Serves on College committees and attends statewide financial aid meetings representing the College. Attends workshops to stay current on financial aid regulations. Assists in supervising student employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education, Public Administration, Business, Social Science or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for providing financial aid services in a collegiate setting; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of financial aid as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with financial aid regulations to develop policies and procedures pertaining to the awarding of financial aid, monitoring of services, and auditing compliance of programs. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide-ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing, spreadsheet, and powerpoint software. Experience using student information system(s) (e.g., BANNER, PeopleSoft, etc.). For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations. Knowledge of the special needs and unique challenges of student groups to include those that are minorities, socio-economically disadvantaged, disabled, or adult learners. Must be able to work evenings and weekends, on- and off-campus settings. Able to work with a variety of traditional and non-traditional students and applicants for admission. Desirable Qualifications Possession of relevant professional experience in higher education student services, counseling, or admissions. Experience using a computerized financial aid information system or on-line student information systems (e.g., EdConnect, TDClient, FAFSA Partner Portal, FAFSA Partner Connect, COD, NSLDS). Some knowledge of the principles and practices of modern office management.
