Job Description

Experienced Finance Manager to oversee the company's accounting and financial operations. This position is ideal for an accounting or finance professional with hands-on experience in construction, landscaping, contracting, or other project-based industries . The Finance Manager will be responsible for financial reporting, construction accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, payroll coordination, and financial analysis. The successful candidate will have strong experience with Sage accounting software, Microsoft Excel, construction/project accounting, financial reporting, and job-cost analysis . Experience working for a public accounting/CPA firm and/or experience with GAF is strongly preferred. This position works closely with ownership, management, project managers, operations, department leaders, and the company's holding company to monitor financial performance, control costs, improve profitability, and support business decisions.
Key Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience . Significant hands-on experience with construction, landscaping, contracting, or project-based accounting . Strong knowledge of construction job costing, project accounting, WIP reporting, project profitability, and budget-to-actual analysis . Professional experience using Sage accounting software — required . Advanced Microsoft Excel and computer skills — required . Strong experience preparing and analyzing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, and variance analysis. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end/year-end close. Strong understanding of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial reporting. Ability to analyze financial information and clearly communicate financial results and recommendations to management. Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines. Preferred Qualifications Experience working for a public accounting or CPA firm . Experience accounting for construction, landscaping, contracting, roofing, or other project-based businesses. Experience with Sage in a professional accounting environment . Experience with GAPP , if applicable to the company's operations. Experience with construction WIP schedules, job-cost reporting, project profitability, progress billing, and budget-to-actual reporting . Experience supporting a holding company, parent company, or consolidated reporting environment . Experience supporting audits, reviews, tax filings, and external financial reporting. Experience with construction insurance, bonding, compliance, and financial-risk management. Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Operations Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial transactions. Maintain accurate and complete financial records. Review journal entries and accounting transactions for accuracy. Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, balance sheet accounts, and other financial accounts. Coordinate monthly and year-end closing processes. Establish, maintain, and improve accounting procedures and internal controls. Ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely. Construction Accounting & Job Costing Oversee accounting activities related to construction, landscaping, and field operations. Monitor labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, overhead, and other project costs. Analyze project costs and profitability. Monitor actual job costs against budgets and approved estimates. Prepare and analyze WIP, job-cost, project profitability, and budget-to-actual reports . Identify cost overruns, unfavorable variances, and opportunities to improve project profitability. Work closely with project managers and operations to understand financial performance. Ensure proper allocation and recording of project-related costs. Financial Reporting Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Prepare management and financial reporting packages for ownership and executive management. Provide financial information to the holding company, lenders, external accountants, auditors, and other stakeholders as required. Analyze revenue, expenses, margins, profitability, cash flow, and financial trends. Assist with consolidated financial reporting where applicable. Support audits, reviews, tax filings, and other external reporting requirements. Budgeting & Forecasting Develop and manage annual operating budgets. Prepare financial forecasts and cash-flow projections. Monitor company, department, and project spending against approved budgets. Prepare and analyze budget-to-actual variances. Provide recommendations to management regarding financial performance and cost control. Assist leadership with financial planning and business decisions. Cash Flow & Financial Analysis Monitor daily and projected cash flow. Analyze operating costs, profitability, margins, and financial trends. Develop and monitor key financial performance indicators. Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve profitability. Provide management with financial analysis and recommendations. Payroll & Compliance Oversee payroll processing and payroll-related reporting. Coordinate payroll tax filings, employee deductions, and related requirements. Maintain appropriate financial controls. Assist with insurance renewals, bonding requirements, and financial risk management. Ensure compliance with applicable federal, California, and local requirements. Management & Leadership Supervise accounting, payroll, and administrative personnel as assigned. Provide financial guidance and training to department managers. Work closely with project management, operations, and executive leadership. Communicate financial results, trends, risks, and recommendations clearly. Maintain accurate and timely communication with the holding company. Required Technical Skills The successful candidate should have strong working knowledge of: Sage Accounting Software Microsoft Excel — advanced proficiency Microsoft Office General ledger and financial reporting systems Construction/job-cost accounting systems Financial reporting and analysis Budgeting and forecasting WIP reporting Job costing and project profitability Payroll and accounting systems Advanced Excel skills should include the ability to work with formulas, PivotTables, financial data, reconciliations, reporting tools, spreadsheets, and financial models .
Education & Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience. Construction or project-based accounting experience. Demonstrated financial statement preparation and financial reporting experience. Demonstrated professional experience using Sage accounting software . Strong Microsoft Excel and overall computer proficiency.
Preferred:
Public accounting/CPA firm experience. GAF experience, where applicable. Construction job costing and project accounting experience. WIP reporting and project profitability experience. Experience with a holding company or parent-company reporting structure. Audit, review, tax, or external reporting experience. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and use computer equipment for extended periods. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to occasionally visit field operations, project sites, and company facilities. Work Environment This is primarily an in-person office position with occasional visits to field operations, project sites, and company facilities.
