The Accounting Manager is responsible for the day-to-day financial operations and the stewardship of mission-driven funds. This role focuses heavily on fund accounting, grant and contract compliance, and maintaining tax-exempt status. The position will be responsible for reporting accurate data, clean audits, and adherence to county contract requirements. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer the Accounting Manager will own the full accounting cycle and serve as a partner for program managers tracking their budgets.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare GAAP compliant nonprofit financial statements, including the statement of financial position, statement of activities, statement of functional expenses, and statement of cash flows. Assist with the monthly board reporting package. Assist in the coordination of the annual budget with program managers, providing reports on variance analysis monthly to ensure program sustainability. Own the month-end and year-end closing process, overseeing the recording of adjusting journal entries for account discrepancies, closing journal entries, accrual entries, and balance sheet account reconciliations. Oversee accounts payable functions, ensuring vendors are paid timely and all expenses are allocated and recorded correctly. Oversee accounts receivable functions, ensuring accuracy of invoices and timely submittal within contract requirements. Lead the annual external audit and the federal single audit, preparing workpapers and schedules as necessary. Create and maintain rigorous internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud and ensure compliance with OMB Uniform Guidance, ensuring clear separation of duties of accounting functions. Supervise and mentor accounting staff. Update accounting policies and procedures according to best practices and audit standards. Participate in strategic planning committees as needed. Conduct periodic fixed asset audits ensuring records are accurate and records of additions and deletions are timely. Participate in new systems implementations as needed. Provides complex analysis and reasonableness tests to the budgeting process relating to Federal and State programs. Keeps all company records accurate and up to date. Maintains records retention log to facilitate the orderly file system of permanent records for adherence to record retention policy. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance. 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in nonprofit fund accounting. CPA a plus Experience with AccuFund a plus
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge and skills of: Accounting and auditing systems, methods, techniques, procedures, regulations and source documents including, but not limited to, expenditure, revenue, general ledger and related accounting procedures and the interrelationship of internal and external recordkeeping systems; Federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and standards related to auditing and financial control of a nonprofit agency Policy and procedure development and implementation related to auditing and financial control systems used throughout a large public agency Financing techniques for short-term and long-term financing instruments Principles and practices of supervising and training Principles and theory of public administration including general administration, human resource management, fiscal management, and accounting Common methods of balancing cash and checks against records of receipt; Methods of handling, recording and controlling monies received and disbursed; Ability to: Identify actual or potential problems or issues pertaining to behavioral health programs or services, address such problems, and develop or assist in developing effective resolutions; Exercise appropriate judgment when making decisions and/or following recommendations, including how decisions or recommendations could have adverse effects; Exercise appropriate judgment when dealing with information which may be confidential or sensitive in nature; Exercise initiative, judgment, prioritization, multitasking, problem solving, decision- making with quality results; Read, understand, interpret, apply, and explain documents, requirements, policies and procedures; Effectively organize and prioritize assignments, projects, and workload to meet deadlines that have strict timelines; Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; Establish and maintain effective relationships with Supervisors, Coworkers and Members. Prepare reports and maintain records; Understand and carry out oral and written instructions; Work independently; Maintain confidentiality; Maintain professional appearance at all times; Maintain appropriate and timely communication with family, significant others, and referral sources conveying a positive professional image; Implement, and interpret policies and procedures and effectively communicate sensitive information verbally and in writing to a diverse population.
Pay:
$43.27 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
