Based at our shared Santee, California facility, this role leads day-to-day accounting operations for two established automotive-accessory businesses and partners closely with site and corporate leadership. Bestop Aluminess LLC Aluminess has designed and manufactured premium aluminum products for trucks, vans, and SUVs since 2001. Its American-made bumpers, roof racks, and accessories are known for quality, strength, utility, and lightweight performance for off-road and overlanding applications. Bestop MGP Caliper Covers LLC MGP is an aftermarket automotive-accessory manufacturer known for innovation, quality, and precision engineering. Since introducing the caliper cover in 2008, MGP has produced safety-tested, OEM-licensed aluminum caliper covers in a wide range of colors, styles, and custom designs. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Accounting Manager to oversee accounting operations for Aluminess and MGP. This position is responsible for financial reporting, month-end close, budgeting and forecasting, accounts receivable and payable, cost accounting, inventory valuation, internal controls, audit support, and process improvement. The Accounting Manager will turn financial data into practical business insights, partner with manufacturing leaders, and supervise and develop the accounting assistant. This role reports to the Aluminess/MGP General Manager and the Corporate Controller. Key Responsibilities Financial reporting and close: Manage accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes and prepare financial statements and management reports.
Budgeting and forecasting:
Support annual budgets and periodic forecasts, monitor performance, and provide actionable analysis to business leaders.
Accounts receivable:
Oversee customer collections and account aging to maintain current balances and support healthy cash flow.
Accounts payable:
Manage payment priorities and partner with procurement on vendor terms and payment conditions.
Cost accounting:
Maintain product-cost standards for labor, materials, and overhead; analyze cost drivers, margins, profitability, and operational trends.
Inventory accounting:
Oversee inventory valuation, reconciliations, and related controls to ensure costs are complete and accurate.
Variance analysis:
Compare actual results with budgets, forecasts, and standards; identify root causes and recommend corrective action.
Manufacturing partnership:
Collaborate with production and operations teams to improve cost visibility, efficiency, and business performance.
Internal controls and compliance:
Maintain effective controls that safeguard company assets and support GAAP compliance.
Tax and audit support:
Coordinate supporting documentation for tax filings and external audits.
Licensing accruals:
Track accruals and coordinate royalty payments in accordance with licensing agreements.
Process improvement:
Strengthen accounting processes, reporting, and systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
Team leadership:
Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting assistant while promoting accountability and collaboration. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred. Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or team-lead responsibilities. Three or more years of cost-accounting experience; manufacturing experience strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, inventory accounting, and product costing. Experience with ERP systems; NetSuite experience preferred. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Proven ability to manage competing priorities, solve problems, develop team members, and communicate financial information clearly.
