at Robert Half in Alsip, Illinois, United States Job Description Description We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager/Supervisor to lead core financial operations for a nonprofit organization in Illinois. This permanent role oversees accounting staff, supports accurate and timely reporting, and helps maintain strong financial controls across the agency. The position is well suited for a hands-on finance leader who can manage month-end activities, coordinate audit support, and provide clear analysis that informs organizational decision-making.
Responsibilities:
Lead the preparation and delivery of financial statements for leadership, the Board, and external agencies, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
Direct daily oversight of cash activity and coordinate account transfers to maintain sufficient funding for payroll and accounts payable obligations.
Supervise accounting team members by guiding hiring, onboarding, training, performance discussions, and issue resolution in alignment with organizational policies.
Analyze monthly financial results, identify notable fluctuations, and work with internal stakeholders to clarify and resolve material variances.
Review month-end reporting packages to confirm that balances, schedules, and supporting reports reconcile properly across the accounting records.
Oversee allocation processes and manage the distribution of recurring financial reports at the end of each month.
Complete assigned reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and post journal entries while recommending improvements that strengthen efficiency and accuracy.
Organize and provide audit support documentation for annual financial reviews and other required examinations.
Maintain orderly journal entry records and supporting files to promote strong documentation standards and audit readiness.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field is required.
At least five years of experience in accounting operations, including general ledger activity, reconciliations, and month-end close.
Minimum of two years of leadership experience overseeing staff within an accounting or finance function.
Knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting practices applicable to a nonprofit environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a structured, team-oriented, and goal-driven setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook, along with general accounting software skills.
Valid driver's license, current auto insurance, and an acceptable motor vehicle record are required.
