The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the company's accounting functions, financial reporting, month-end close process, job costing, commission administration, payroll support activities, reconciliations, fleet administration, and financial analysis. This role will serve as a trusted business partner to operational leaders and play a key role in improving financial visibility and operational performance throughout the organization. The ideal candidate possesses strong accounting knowledge, exceptional analytical skills, leadership capabilities, and the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights. Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting Manage the day-to-day accounting operations of the business. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports. Lead the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Review general ledger activity and ensure proper account coding and classifications. Perform and oversee account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial analyses. Monitor financial results and provide variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods. Develop and maintain financial dashboards, KPIs, and performance reporting. Job Costing & Operational Analysis Oversee job costing processes to ensure labor, materials, and subcontractor costs are accurately allocated. Analyze profitability by department, service line, and project. Monitor operational KPIs, labor utilization, revenue trends, and gross margins. Partner with leadership to identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency. Provide detailed financial modeling and forecasting to support business decisions. Budgeting & Forecasting Assist leadership with annual budgeting and forecasting processes. Monitor budget performance and recommend corrective actions when needed. Support cash flow forecasting and financial planning initiatives. Identify financial risks and opportunities impacting business performance. Payroll, Commissions & Labor Analysis Oversee commission calculations and incentive compensation programs. Review labor reporting and timesheet data for accuracy and completeness. Partner with payroll and operations teams to ensure accurate labor cost reporting. Analyze compensation trends and labor utilization metrics. Accounts Receivable & Internal Controls Monitor accounts receivable processes and collection performance. Review aging reports and support collection strategies. Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures. Ensure compliance with company financial policies and best practices. Support internal and external audits and maintain audit-ready documentation. Fleet & Asset Administration Oversee fleet administration, including vehicle records, registrations, maintenance tracking, fuel card management, and reporting. Monitor company assets and support capital expenditure tracking. Leadership & Process Improvement Mentor and support accounting team members and administrative staff as assigned. Develop, document, and improve accounting processes and standard operating procedures. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce risk. Implement best practices for financial reporting, workflow automation, and internal controls. Collaborate with operations, service, sales, and leadership teams to improve organizational performance. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience. 2+ years of accounting leadership, supervisory, or management experience preferred. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, data analysis, and reporting. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and month-end close activities. Experience with commission calculations, labor reporting, and operational accounting preferred. Preferred Qualifications Experience within the HVAC, construction, home services, manufacturing, or trade industries. Experience with ServiceTitan, Sage Intacct, or comparable ERP/accounting systems. CPA, CMA, or progress toward professional certification preferred. Experience with job costing and project-based accounting. Familiarity with multi-location operations and service-based businesses.
