Reporting directly to the Controller, this role will be a key operating leader within Finance as PBI scales from more than $60 million in annual revenue toward $100 million+. The Accounting Manager will combine strong controllership fundamentals with hands-on manufacturing cost accounting, inventory/COGS ownership and management reporting. This person will lead day-to-day accounting execution, improve controls and close processes, partner with plant and functional leaders, and help expand the use of ConverSight, AI-enabled tools and business intelligence across the organization. Reports to Controller Location Clackamas, Oregon - in person Scope Accounting and cost-accounting ownership across all three PBI manufacturing plants Core focus Close & GL ownership, cost accounting, inventory & COGS, controls, team leadership, BI/reporting Essential Responsibilities
  • Own the day-to-day accounting function and execution of the weekly, monthly and year-end close under the direction of the Controller, including close calendar, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, review and supporting schedules.
  • Own manufacturing cost accounting across the organization, including inventory valuation, COGS, standard/actual cost analysis, manufacturing variances, yield and usage, labor and overhead, BOM/cost inputs and related account reconciliations.
  • Ensure accurate accounting and cut-off for raw materials, WIP and finished goods across all plants; partner with Operations and Supply Chain to resolve inventory and production-reporting issues at the source.
  • Review plant and consolidated P&L and balance-sheet results, investigate variances and unusual activity, and communicate key drivers to the Controller, CFO and operating leaders.
  • Lead and continuously improve recurring management reporting and KPI reporting by plant, product, customer and other operating dimensions.
  • Use ConverSight, ERP data, Excel and AI-enabled tools to automate reporting and reconciliations, improve exception detection, accelerate analysis and strengthen business intelligence for management decision-making.
  • Manage, coach and develop accounting staff; establish clear ownership, review standards, deadlines and cross-training to improve depth and scalability of the finance team.
  • Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, documentation, internal controls and review procedures appropriate for a rapidly growing multi-site manufacturer.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Commercial and IT/Systems teams on accounting accuracy, master data, workflow design, ERP/process improvements and reporting needs.
  • Support external audit, tax, lender reporting, due diligence and other compliance or stakeholder requests in coordination with the Controller and CFO.
  • Lead special projects involving systems, process redesign, data cleanup, financial analysis or integration of new operations and capabilities as PBI grows. Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related quantitative field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with substantial hands-on responsibility for month-end close, general ledger and financial statement support.
  • At least 4 years of cost-accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, with strong command of inventory, COGS, production costing and manufacturing variances.
  • Prior experience leading or reviewing the work of accountants; formal people-management experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, balance-sheet controls and the accounting mechanics of a manufacturing business.
  • Advanced Excel and data-analysis capabilities, including the ability to structure, reconcile and interpret large data sets.
  • Experience working in organizations with meaningful scale and complexity.
The ideal candidate has worked across more than one company size or stage - such as small/high-growth, mid-sized and/or larger companies - and understands both hands-on execution and more structured control environments. Candidates whose experience is exclusively very small-company or exclusively large-company/siloed are less likely to fit the role.
