Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and empathetic financial counselor to serve as a Financial Empowerment Specialist. The Financial Empowerment Specialist will play a pivotal role in providing personalized financial guidance to our members, assisting them in achieving their financial goals and ensuring their long-term financial well-being.
FINANCIAL COUNSELING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Financial Consultation:
    Conduct one-on-one financial consultations with members to assess their financial situation, understand their goals, and identify areas for improvement.
      Budgeting and Planning:
      Assist members in creating comprehensive budgets and personalized financial plans tailored to their needs, incorporating savings goals, debt management strategies, and investment objectives.
        Debt Management:
        Provide expert advice on managing debt effectively, including debt consolidation options, repayment plans, and negotiation with creditors, to help members alleviate financial stress and achieve financial stability.
          Credit Counseling:
          Analyze members' credit reports, explain credit scores and factors affecting them, and offer guidance on improving creditworthiness through responsible credit management practices.
            Financial Education:
            Conduct financial literacy workshops, seminars, and individual sessions to educate members on financial concepts, such as budgeting, saving, investing, and retirement planning, empowering them to make informed financial decisions.
              Product and Service Guidance:
              Recommend credit union products and services that align with members' financial needs and goals, including checking and savings accounts, loans, mortgages, insurance, and investment options.
                Compliance:
                Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies governing financial counseling and member interactions, maintaining confidentiality and privacy standards at all times.
                  Member Relationship Management:
                  Build strong, trusting relationships with members by providing personalized assistance, proactive follow-up, and ongoing support, serving as a reliable resource for their financial inquiries and concerns.
                  • Monitor and track the success of the financial counselling program, regularly analyzing data to measure its impact on members financial well-being and overall credit union objectives.
                  • Continually pursue strategies for program improvement and innovation.
                  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
                  BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
                  • Represent at tabling/community/ networking events to promote our services and establish partnerships with other businesses and organizations.
                  • Create and conduct financial literacy workshops/ presentations for Schools with age-appropriate content for elementary, middle school, high school and college students.
                  • Support membership growth by identifying opportunities to introduce prospective members to products, services, financial education programs, and overall value proposition.
                  • Collaborate with other departments to identify opportunities that support member acquisition, retention, product utilization, and community engagement.
                  • Identify financial needs, trends and opportunities within the communities we serve and communicate findings to support business development and outreach strategies.
                  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
                  EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
                  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
                  Fields of study:
                  Communication, Marketing/ Business Development or similar.
                  • Spanish fluency(read/write/speak) a plus but not required.
                  • Certified Financial Counselor (obtained within 90 days), maintained/renewed every three (3) years.
                  • At least two years of previous experience in a bank or credit union with preferred experience in financial counseling, financial planning, or a related field.
                  • Strong understanding of financial principles, including budgeting, debt management, credit, investments, and retirement planning.
                  • Effective written and oral communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts in simple terms.
                  • Excellent public speaking skills with a wide range of audience sizes.
                  • Analytical mindset, with the ability to assess members' financial situations, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop practical solutions.
                  • Proficiency in Office 365 applications including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
                  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed of industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in financial counseling.

                  $23.85 - $40.00 per hour
