Job Description

Role:
Underwriter for lending and loan documentation, which includes ensuring timely loan decisions and recommendations. Spread and analyze personal and business financial statements, including tax return of current and potential bank customers per the credit policy and procedures. Handle exceptions, loan review, training and reporting.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Decision loans timely and within bank guidelines and recommend decisions on requests outside of loan authority. Communicate with the Retail staff in all phases of loans. Ensure that the compliance of regulations, policies and procedures are within guidelines/underwriting to the highest level. Draft and proof all loan documents and loan agreements (including Subordination Agreements) for lending staff. Order documents from Attorneys/ Title companies to complete preparation of loan documents. Accurately spread and analyze financial statements, utilizing system software and spreadsheets to determine financial capacity of applicants. Conduct additional credit investigation and analysis, including obtaining business and consumer credit bureau reports. Ensure files meet compliance, applicable law and regulatory guidelines, including compliance regulations, policies and procedures are within guidelines to the highest level. Accurately process loan closing conditions. Maintain good working relationship with Business Banking Relationship Officers and Market Managers. Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
1. To ensure the bank and governmental standards are met at all times, ensuring accuracy on all documents with zero errors. Maintain knowledge of bank policy and governmental regulations through continued research and training. 2. To underwrite all other consumer loans in a timely manner, meeting service standard expectations for the various loan types. 3. To ensure loans on decisioning system are completed, including approval, declination and withdraw process. To forward all decline notifications by regulatory deadlines. 4. To ensure all loan documents are completed accurate and timely, meeting lending regulations and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. 5. To maintain good rapport, professional, courteous and friendly, with customers, external and internal. 6. To report any backlogs or problems promptly to supervisor. 7. To maintain the confidentiality of all information as directed in banking procedures. 8. Communicates with Retail staff of changes in Polices, Procedures, changes in loan software updates and assist to resolve / train lenders in Audit findings. 9. To comply with all state and federal regulations that are applicable to their specific job duties. 10. To complete all assigned training within the allotted time frame. 11. To provide friendly, professional and accurate service and support to all customers and employees. 12. Each position within the Company shares in the cross-selling of the Company's products and services.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience:
Five years to eight years of similar or related experience.
Education:
(1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g. information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).
Interpersonal Skills:
Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
Other Skills:
Good communication skills. 10 key and word processing Excel, Word, Windows, Internet, imaging program, host processing system, loan documentation system, loan decisioning system skills. Management skills. Accounting knowledge. Financial statement analysis. Thorough knowledge of loan documentation and lien perfection. Understanding of laws and regulation related to consumer lending. Physical Requirements:
The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Must able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
