As we grow through acquisition and organic expansion, we are building the enterprise infrastructure needed to support a larger, multi-state organization. The Opportunity We are looking for a hands-on payroll leader and builder to help evolve payroll from a decentralized operation into a scalable enterprise function. This is a newly created role for someone who enjoys getting into the details while also thinking about how payroll needs to operate as the organization grows. You'll work closely with Payroll Managers across our operating divisions to strengthen what works, solve gaps, establish PaveMasters-wide standards, and build processes that can scale across new companies and states. We need someone comfortable moving between strategy and execution — leading and developing people, digging into payroll issues, navigating compliance, improving processes, and preparing the organization for continued growth and acquisitions. What You'll Do Build and lead the PaveMasters-wide payroll framework across multiple divisions, entities, and states. Provide leadership, coaching, and oversight to division Payroll Managers, supporting team development and accountability across PaveMasters. Partner closely with division Payroll Managers to support accurate, timely payroll while driving greater consistency in standards and practices across divisions. Develop and implement payroll processes, policies, controls, and documentation across the organization. Stay hands-on — troubleshoot payroll issues, review data and processes, identify gaps, and help teams solve problems. Lead payroll due diligence, integration, and system migration as new companies join PaveMasters. Partner with Accounting and HR on payroll reconciliations, job costing, accruals, deductions, employee changes, and other payroll-related matters. Optimize ADP Workforce Now, payroll reporting, workflows, integrations, and opportunities for automation. Build reporting and controls that improve payroll visibility, accuracy, compliance, and decision-making. Help shape the tools, technology, and operating model needed to support the payroll function as PaveMasters grows. What You Bring Strong payroll leadership experience, including leading and developing payroll teams, within a multi-entity, multi-location and/or multi-state organization. A builder mindset with the ability to create structure, improve processes, and solve problems in an evolving environment. Deep, hands-on payroll expertise and the willingness to get into the details. Experience with ADP Workforce Now or a comparable enterprise payroll platform; strong ADP experience is highly preferred. Experience with construction payroll, prevailing wage/certified payroll, and job costing strongly preferred. Strong working knowledge of payroll compliance, including California wage and hour requirements and multi-state considerations. Demonstrated experience supporting acquisitions, payroll integrations, system conversions, and/or high-growth environments. Ability to work effectively across decentralized teams and build strong relationships with Payroll, HR, Accounting, Finance, Operations, and local leadership.
