Job Description

Emergency Financial Representative Location:
Onsite Schedule:
Mid Shift, 5x8-Hour, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, Full Time (Minimum guaranteed 72 hours every 2 weeks), Rotating Weekends and Holidays About the Role The Emergency Financial Representative is responsible for ensuring reimbursement to the facility from patients or other responsible parties, while assisting patients in understanding their health care insurance coverage by determining eligibility, benefits, and utilization requirements. This role handles up-front point-of-service (POS) collections and financially secures patient accounts by setting up appropriate payment arrangements to avoid bad debt. When appropriate, the Emergency Financial Representative assists patients in accessing programs such as Medi-Cal, Uncompensated Care, and Hospital Presumptive Eligibility. All patient interactions occur only after a medical screening exam has been performed, and all patients are seen regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay. Compensation Highlights $856 Weekly Gross $0 Weekly Tax-Free Stipends $21.40/hr Taxable Rate $21.40/hr Blended Rate Pay rates and estimates are subject to change and are not guaranteed. Job Summary / Responsibilities Focus on individual performance in registration and financial counseling, Key Performance Indicators, and expediting approvals by gathering and completing forms before patient discharge from the Emergency Department Continue enhancing registration and fundamental financial knowledge required for the role, including the facility's diverse financial programs Complete the comprehensive training program and certification required to facilitate Hospital Presumptive Eligibility qualifications when necessary Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED, minimum 2 years of experience in front office/medical billing and/or current hospital registration/admitting 2 years of experience in insurance verification and/or medical/hospital billing

experience Preferred Qualifications Evidence of continuing education in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration Bilingual Skills Clear understanding of the facility's mission and values Ability to work directly with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients Ability to generate revenue through POS collections, establishing payment arrangements, and collecting on Self-Pay and/or high liability accounts at the point of registration EMTALA knowledge and experience Attention to detail and strong follow-up process Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies Excellent English reading, comprehension, and written skills, including spelling and penmanship Excellent mathematical skills, including the ability to calculate copay or percentage of financial estimate amount due and establish payment arrangements accurately Ability to follow directions outlined in policies or given by supervisor Strong computer skills, including typing 45+ WPM minimum and proficiency in MS Office programs Excellent organizational skills Ability to exercise independent judgment during emergency situations Knowledge of government regulations and ability to interact with all levels of hospital and outside vendor staff Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment Stringent adherence to all privacy policies and procedures, including HIPAA Security and Privacy Rules Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to act and decide accordingly Knowledge of eligibility requirements for Medi-Cal, Hospital Presumptive Eligibility Program, Medicare, Covered California, COBRA, limited benefit plans, VVC, and Uncompensated Care Programs IPA knowledge Additional Details
