Job Description

Tax and Accounting Manager HD Financial Firm LLC Location:
Dublin, Georgia About HD Financial HD Financial Firm LLC is a growing tax and accounting firm focused on providing more than traditional tax preparation and bookkeeping services. Our goal is to develop long-term relationships with our clients and serve as a proactive financial and tax advisor throughout the year. We believe good tax planning should happen before the tax return is prepared , not after the year is over. Our team works closely with individuals and business owners to understand their financial picture, identify tax-saving opportunities, anticipate upcoming liabilities, and help them make informed business and financial decisions. We are seeking an experienced Tax and Accounting Manager who shares this proactive approach and can help lead client relationships, oversee tax and accounting engagements, and develop members of our growing team. Position Overview The Tax and Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing a portfolio of individual and business clients while overseeing tax preparation, tax planning, accounting engagements, and client advisory services. This position requires a strong technical tax and accounting background, but equally important is the ability to communicate with clients, recognize planning opportunities, anticipate issues before they arise, and help clients understand how financial and business decisions affect their taxes. The ideal candidate does not simply prepare a tax return based on what happened last year. They will actively look ahead, ask questions, review financial information throughout the year, and work with clients to develop strategies that improve their overall tax position. Key ResponsibilitiesTax Compliance & Review Manage and review federal and state income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, corporations, trusts, and other entities. Review tax returns prepared by staff for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable tax laws. Identify tax issues and planning opportunities during the return preparation and review process. Research complex federal and state tax matters as needed. Review estimated tax calculations and assist clients with quarterly payment planning. Assist with IRS and state tax notices, correspondence, and resolution matters. Help ensure tax returns and related filings are completed accurately and within established deadlines. Proactive Tax Planning & Advisory Perform tax projections throughout the year rather than limiting planning discussions to tax season. Identify opportunities involving entity structure, reasonable compensation, retirement planning, depreciation strategies, estimated taxes, withholding, business deductions, and other tax-saving strategies. Meet with clients periodically to review their financial position and anticipated tax liability. Analyze business profitability and financial trends to identify potential tax or cash-flow concerns. Help business owners evaluate the tax impact of major decisions before those decisions are made. Work with clients to develop practical strategies that balance tax savings with their broader financial and business goals. Coordinate with financial advisors, attorneys, payroll providers, and other professionals when appropriate. Accounting & Financial Review Oversee monthly and quarterly accounting engagements for business clients. Review financial statements, general ledgers, reconciliations, and adjusting entries prepared by accounting staff. Identify accounting issues and unusual trends before they become larger problems. Ensure client books are properly maintained and tax-ready. Assist clients with accounting questions and help them better understand their financial statements. Review business performance and financial data as part of the firm's ongoing tax planning process. Client Relationship Management Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients. Develop strong relationships with business owners and individual clients. Communicate complex tax and accounting topics in a clear and understandable way. Proactively reach out to clients when planning opportunities, deadlines, or potential issues are identified. Manage client expectations and ensure engagements move forward efficiently. Participate in tax planning meetings, year-end planning discussions, and periodic client check-ins. Look for opportunities where HD Financial can provide additional value to clients. Team Leadership & Development Supervise and mentor tax and accounting staff. Review work prepared by team members and provide constructive feedback. Assist with training staff on tax preparation, accounting procedures, firm standards, and client communication. Help assign and prioritize work during tax season and throughout the year. Encourage staff to think beyond completing tasks and develop the ability to identify planning opportunities. Work with firm leadership to improve processes, workflows, technology, and client service. Help maintain a culture of accountability, professionalism, continuous learning, and proactive client service. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field, or relevant work experience. CPA or Enrolled Agent designation required. Approximately 7+ years of public accounting, tax, or related experience preferred. Experience preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns. Strong knowledge of federal taxation for individuals and closely held businesses. Experience with partnerships and S corporations strongly preferred. Strong accounting and financial statement knowledge. Experience reviewing bookkeeping and accounting work. Ability to research and interpret tax laws and regulations. Strong organizational and project management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple client relationships and deadlines simultaneously. Comfortable speaking directly with business owners and discussing tax and financial matters. Strong attention to detail while maintaining the ability to see the client's overall financial picture. What We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who naturally asks: "What can we do before year-end to improve this client's situation?" rather than simply: "What happened last year?" The right person will be technically strong but also curious, proactive, and comfortable advising clients. They should enjoy developing relationships with business owners, understanding how their businesses operate, and finding opportunities to provide value beyond completing a tax return. We want someone who takes ownership of their clients, communicates proactively, and wants to be part of building a modern tax and accounting firm centered around year-round planning and advisory services. Success in This Role A successful Tax and Accounting Manager at HD Financial will: Deliver accurate and timely tax and accounting work. Build trusted relationships with clients. Identify planning opportunities before clients ask about them. Reduce surprises at tax time through regular projections and communication. Develop staff into stronger tax and accounting professionals. Improve the efficiency and consistency of client engagements. Help transition client relationships from traditional compliance services toward year-round tax planning and advisory. Contribute ideas that help HD Financial continue to grow and improve. Our Philosophy At HD Financial, preparing the tax return is only part of the job. Our goal is to understand our clients, stay engaged throughout the year, anticipate tax consequences, and help clients make informed decisions before opportunities are lost. We strive to be the advisor our clients call before they make an important financial or business decision—not just the accountant they contact after the year is over.
