Webb, New England's largest wholesale distributor of plumbing, heating, HVAC and industrial supplies is seeking a full-time Sales Tax Manager for it's corporate office located in Bedford, MA.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the company's sales and use tax function for all locations, ensuring compliance with state and local tax laws across all jurisdictions where the company does business Supervise, train, and develop the Sales Tax Specialist, including setting priorities, reviewing work for accuracy, and conducting performance evaluations Establish, document, and maintain sales tax policies and procedures, including standards for customer and transaction taxability and exemption certificate acceptance Review and approve monthly sales tax returns and payments for eight states prior to filing, and ensure all deadlines are met Serve as the escalation point for complex taxability questions, disputed exemption certificates, and customer or location issues Assist in state sales and use tax audits, including coordinating supporting documentation Monitor legislative and regulatory changes, assess their impact on the business, and update procedures and systems accordingly Evaluate nexus exposure as the company grows or enters new states, and manage new state registrations Oversee the exemption certificate maintenance software and tax settings in the billing system, ensuring data integrity and proper configuration Review tax override activity and tax-only credit trends to identify root causes and implement corrective training or process changes Partner with Accounting, Credit, IT, and outside advisors on tax-related projects and system improvements
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required Minimum of 5 years of sales and use tax experience required, including multi-state return preparation and audit support Prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred Strong working knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax rules, exemption certificates, and nexus Experience with exemption certificate management software and sales tax compliance systems Advanced proficiency in Excel Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, locations, and auditors Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and make sound decisions with minimal supervision We are unable to sponsor employment visas now or in the future, and applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
