+ Revenue Sharing About Our Place Financial At Our Place Financial, we believe great accounting is about more than preparing tax returns and producing financial statements. It's about building relationships, understanding our clients' financial goals, and helping them make informed decisions that move their businesses forward. We are a growing tax preparation, bookkeeping, and tax strategy firm serving individuals and small businesses nationwide, with physical offices in Irvine, CA and Clarkston, MI. Our approach is personal, proactive, and consultative. We take the time to educate our clients, explain their numbers, and identify opportunities to improve their financial position. We are not a traditional accounting firm. We don't measure success by billable hours, and we don't believe accountants should spend their entire careers behind a computer. We value collaboration, client relationships, professional development, and delivering an exceptional client experience. About the Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager who holds an active Enrolled Agent (EA) credential to join our growing team. This is a hands-on, client-facing position for an experienced tax professional who enjoys both the technical and relationship-building sides of accounting. The ideal candidate is someone who can confidently prepare and review complex tax returns, develop tax strategies, mentor developing professionals, and build meaningful relationships with business owners. You'll play an important role in managing tax preparation operations, maintaining technical accuracy, supporting our team, and helping clients understand how their tax decisions impact their financial goals. We are looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, communicating with clients, and contributing to the growth of a firm where their expertise makes a difference. Key ResponsibilitiesTax Preparation, Review & Compliance Prepare and review federal and state individual, partnership, S-Corporation, C-Corporation, and trust tax returns. Review returns prepared by other team members for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable tax laws. Provide technical guidance on complex tax situations, including pass-through entities, business deductions, depreciation, and tax credits. Research federal and state tax regulations and apply findings to client-specific circumstances. Manage tax preparation workflows, filing deadlines, extensions, and quality-control procedures. Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and accuracy of tax preparation processes. Assist with complex bookkeeping, financial statement adjustments, and cleanup projects when necessary. Tax Strategy & Advisory Tax strategy is a core component of our services, and this position will be actively involved in delivering it. Lead tax strategy consultations with individual and business clients. Analyze financial information to identify opportunities to reduce tax liabilities through compliant planning. Develop customized tax strategies and written recommendations. Advise clients on entity structure, business deductions, estimated tax payments, and other tax planning opportunities. Prepare tax projections and help clients understand the financial implications of business decisions. Collaborate with our bookkeeping team to ensure financial information supports accurate tax preparation and proactive planning. Identify clients who would benefit from additional tax advisory services. Client Relationships & Communication This is a highly client-facing role. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with people and helping them understand their finances. Serve as a trusted tax advisor and primary point of contact for assigned clients. Lead client meetings to discuss tax returns, planning opportunities, and financial considerations. Explain complex tax concepts in a clear, approachable, and educational manner. Develop strong, long-term relationships built on trust, responsiveness, and personalized service. Proactively communicate with clients throughout the year, not just during tax season. Help clients understand their tax obligations, identify planning opportunities, and make informed financial decisions. Deliver an exceptional client experience that reflects Our Place Financial's service standards. Team Collaboration & Mentorship Provide technical support, guidance, and mentorship to junior tax professionals and bookkeepers. Review team members' work and provide constructive feedback. Help team members develop their technical knowledge and professional confidence. Collaborate with leadership to improve tax preparation processes and team efficiency. Support a positive, collaborative work environment focused on continuous improvement and client service. Assist in coordinating tax workloads and ensuring deadlines are met. Business Development & Community Engagement We believe building relationships within our community is an important part of growing our firm. Represent Our Place Financial at local networking and professional events. Attend a minimum of five networking events per month during the off-season (June-December). Build relationships with local business owners, referral partners, and community organizations. Identify opportunities to introduce prospective clients to our tax preparation, bookkeeping, and tax strategy services. Support client retention and firm growth through exceptional service and relationship development. QualificationsRequired Active Enrolled Agent (EA) credential. Active IRS Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN). Minimum 4 years of professional tax preparation experience , including individual and business tax returns. Experience preparing and reviewing complex federal and state tax returns. Strong knowledge of Forms 1040, 1065, 1120-S, and 1120. Experience with fiduciary/trust tax returns (Form 1041). Experience reviewing tax returns prepared by other professionals. Strong understanding of federal tax regulations and California tax requirements. Experience providing tax planning recommendations to business owners and individuals. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines. Ability to work independently while collaborating with a growing team. A genuine interest in working directly with clients and building professional relationships. Preferred 4+ years of progressive tax experience. Previous experience in a Tax Manager or Senior Tax Accountant role. Experience supervising or mentoring junior tax professionals. Experience developing and implementing tax strategies for small business owners. Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop. Experience with professional tax preparation software. Experience with multi-state tax returns and complex pass-through entities. Experience supporting business owners with entity selection, tax projections, and year-round advisory services. What Makes Our Place Financial Different? No Billable-Hour Requirements We measure success through the quality of our work, client satisfaction, collaboration, and results—not how many hours you bill. Opportunity to Make an Impact As a growing firm, we welcome new ideas and encourage team members to help shape how we deliver services and support our clients. Compensation & ScheduleCompensation Base salary: $115,000-$130,000 annually , depending on qualifications and experience. Performance-based bonus opportunities. Revenue-sharing opportunities for clients personally brought into the firm.
