Summary Cartel Roasting Co. is looking for an experienced Controller to lead our accounting function and help turn financial information into better business decisions across our growing, multi-unit organization. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is equally comfortable digging into the details of a reconciliation, improving an accounting process, and sitting down with operational leaders to explain what the numbers are telling us. You'll be responsible for the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting while building the systems, controls, and reporting that allow our teams to better understand and manage the business. Experience in restaurants, food and beverage, hospitality, or another multi-unit environment is especially valuable. Our business involves inventory, cost of goods sold, labor, location-level performance, fixed assets, cash reconciliation, and the wonderfully complicated financial reality of operating multiple locations. Responsibilities Lead the month-end close process, including account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and financial statements. Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and accounting records for accuracy and completeness. Develop financial reporting and analysis at both the company and individual location level. Identify trends, variances, risks, and opportunities and turn financial data into actionable information for leadership. Partner with operational leaders on budgets, spending, forecasting, and financial performance. Oversee accounting for inventory, cost of goods sold, labor, fixed assets, and other key areas of our multi-unit business. Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including approvals, collections, processes, and financial controls. Manage cash flow reporting and forecasting. Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, including bank accounts, credit cards, debt, fixed assets, and inventory. Maintain and strengthen financial controls while identifying opportunities to improve accuracy, accountability, and efficiency. Ensure timely and accurate sales and transaction privilege tax filings and other accounting-related regulatory requirements. Manage required business licenses and regulatory filings across Cartel operations. Manage and review company insurance policies, renewals, coverage requirements, and certificates of insurance. Lead and develop members of the accounting team while establishing clear responsibilities, processes, deadlines, and expectations. Assist with special projects, financial analysis, and other accounting-related initiatives as needed. Qualifications Enthusiasm, curiosity, and passion for the Cartel brand. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field. 5+ years of accounting or related experience. 2+ years of demonstrated leadership experience. Strong accounting fundamentals and understanding of financial reporting and internal controls. Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate financial and operational data, identify trends, and communicate meaningful insights. Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with leaders and teams across the organization. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities. Strong drive for results and accountability. Strong computer and software abilities in programs such as QuickBooks, Excel, Paylocity, and Asana. Experience in food and beverage, restaurants, hospitality, retail, or another multi-unit environment is highly valued. $85,000-$110,000 annually, depending on experience.
