Micro-Cap Solutions is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a premier architectural millwork and casework manufacturer seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations while providing strategic financial guidance to ownership. Our client specializes in ultra-high-end architectural millwork and custom casework, delivering technically complex projects that require exceptional craftsmanship, precision, and coordination. This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for someone who understands manufacturing economics and can translate financial data into actionable business insights. The Role The Controller will oversee the company's accounting and financial management functions while partnering closely with ownership to improve financial visibility, operational performance, and long-term profitability. This position goes beyond traditional accounting oversight. The Controller will play an important role in helping leadership understand cash flow, project profitability, fixed costs, production throughput, pricing, and the financial drivers of the manufacturing operation . The ideal candidate is a hands-on financial leader who is comfortable operating independently in a smaller, entrepreneurial manufacturing environment and enjoys working closely with Project Management, Production, and executive leadership. Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Accounting Leadership Oversee all accounting and financial management functions, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting Manage general ledger activity, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close Prepare monthly financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and management reports Maintain strong accounting controls and ensure financial and tax-related compliance Coordinate with external accounting and tax professionals Supervise and support the Office Manager and administrative functions Cash Flow, Budgeting & Financial Planning Monitor cash flow weekly and prepare monthly cash flow forecasts Analyze working capital requirements, anticipated cash needs, and overall financial position Track fixed operating costs, insurance expenses, and other overhead expenditures Establish financial performance targets, including revenue and production throughput requirements needed to achieve profitability Identify financial risks, cost-saving opportunities, and areas for operational improvement Provide ownership with clear financial recommendations to support business decisions Manufacturing Financial Analysis & Operational Performance Partner with ownership, Project Management, and Production to evaluate manufacturing financial performance Analyze production throughput, direct costs, contribution margins, fixed costs, and overall profitability Develop financial and operational KPIs that improve visibility into business performance Apply manufacturing and throughput accounting principles to evaluate pricing and operational decisions Analyze production capacity, resource utilization, and the relationship between project volume and profitability Provide financial guidance regarding pricing, markup, margins, direct costs, and fixed-cost recovery Project Accounting, WIP & Billing Oversee work-in-progress (WIP) accounting and project financial reporting Monitor project billings, costs, overbillings, underbillings, and project profitability Establish monthly billing targets and KPIs in coordination with Project Managers and ownership Support accurate billing, collections, and project financial reporting Coordinate percentage-of-completion accounting and reporting with external accounting professionals Improve financial visibility across active projects and overall company performance Systems, Process Improvement & Business Operations Leverage INNERGY or similar ERP/accounting systems to improve financial reporting and operational visibility Evaluate existing accounting processes and implement improvements that increase accuracy and efficiency Develop dashboards, reporting tools, and financial metrics to support leadership decisions Support broader administrative functions, including HR, insurance, workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and general business operations Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and strengthen financial controls Qualifications 7+ years of progressive accounting, finance, or financial management experience , preferably within manufacturing or a production-oriented business Proven experience overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, cash flow forecasting, and operational financial analysis Strong understanding of manufacturing economics, including direct costs, fixed costs, contribution margins, production throughput, and profitability Ability to translate complex financial information into practical business recommendations for ownership Experience with WIP accounting, project billing, and percentage-of-completion accounting preferred Experience developing financial and operational KPIs to support management decisions Strong proficiency with accounting systems, Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting tools Familiarity with INNERGY or similar ERP systems is a plus Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently, take ownership of financial processes, and proactively advise leadership Comfortable working in a smaller, entrepreneurial manufacturing environment where responsibilities extend beyond traditional accounting Collaborative, adaptable, and capable of balancing financial controls with practical business needs EEO Statement All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
