Matchbook Wine Company, a family-owned winery in Yolo County, is seeking a Controller to join our collaborative, entrepreneurial team. Working directly with ownership, this position oversees and actively participates in day-to-day accounting operations while providing timely, accurate financial information to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making. Key Responsibilities Daily Accounting Operations Manage staff on accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and general ledger activities. Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly closing schedules. Oversee bank and credit card reconciliations. Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation. Financial Reporting & Analysis Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Prepare monthly borrowing base reports for bank. Prepare quarterly covenant reports for the bank. Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes. Provide variance analysis and financial insights to management. Monitor cash flow and assist with liquidity planning. Compliance & Controls Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies. Maintain appropriate internal controls for a small business environment. Coordinate with external CPA firm for tax preparation and annual reviews. Support audits and regulatory filings and support bank reporting requirements. Collaboration & Support Partner with operations, sales, and ownership to provide financial guidance. Respond to internal inquiries regarding financial data and reporting. Supervise and train administrative or accounting support staff. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required. 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience Experience in alcohol beverage or consumer products preferred. Familiarity with inventory management, manufacturing costs, and supply chain operations. Experience with ERP systems and financial planning tools. Understands budgeting, forecasting, profitability analysis, and working capital management. Experience with process improvement and operational reporting. Skills & Competencies Strong working knowledge of GAAP. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Clear communication skills and ability to interact with non-financial team members. Work Environment Full-time position in a collaborative, small-team setting, 100% onsite in administration office in Zamora CA. Requires flexibility during month-end close and reporting periods.
