Deliver concise reporting on results, variances, KPIs, project performance, and working capital to leadership, owners, and the board.
Government contracting compliance:
Oversee FAR-compliant cost accounting, including direct/indirect cost allocations and allowable costs. Develop, monitor, submit, support audits of, and negotiate annual overhead and indirect cost rates with federal and state agencies; maintain documentation for DCAA and DOT reviews.
Project finance and cash:
Oversee project accounting and revenue recognition across fixed-price, cost-reimbursable, and time-and-materials contracts. Partner with operations managers on margins, labor utilization, backlog, and work in progress; lead billing, collections, treasury controls, and cash forecasting. Planning, audits, and growth: Support budgets, forecasts, financial analysis, annual audits, tax coordination, and PE ownership reporting. Assist with acquisition due diligence and integration of acquired businesses into BDI financial systems and controls.
Tax filings and compliance:
Oversee tax compliance and coordinate the preparation and timely filing of federal, state, and local tax returns with external tax advisors. Maintain supporting schedules and documentation; manage estimated tax payments, sales and use tax obligations, and responses to tax notices and audits.
Leadership and improvement:
Lead and develop the finance team; improve accounting systems, processes, scalability, and reporting. Maintain a compliance calendar covering filings, audits, rate submissions, and other deadlines.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred. 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including senior accounting leadership and responsibility for financial close and reporting. Demonstrated federal government contracting experience, including FAR Part 31, indirect cost rates, and government overhead-rate audits or negotiations. Strong GAAP, project accounting, revenue recognition, financial analysis, and working-capital management skills. Experience in AEC, professional services, or other project-based government contracting businesses strongly preferred; familiarity with project accounting/ERP systems, Oracle NetSuite preferred, and advanced Excel. Private equity reporting and acquisition integration experience preferred.
