Controller Full-Time Accounting and Finance Broadview, IL Company Overview The Company is a middle market, private equity-owned distribution business generating consistent growth year over year. The organization is focused on sustainable revenue growth, operational scalability, process modernization, and disciplined financial management. Its private equity ownership structure requires timely and accurate reporting, strong internal controls, data-driven decision-making, and consistent execution against financial and operational objectives.
Position Summary:
The Controller serves as the senior accounting leader responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the company's financial reporting and accounting operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this position leads the monthly and quarterly close processes, maintains compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, strengthens internal controls, and develops a high-performing accounting team. The Controller operates as a hands-on leader and business partner who brings structure, discipline, and visibility to a growing distribution organization. This position works closely with executive leadership, private equity stakeholders, external auditors, and operating teams to improve financial processes, support budgeting and forecasting activities, and provide reliable financial information for strategic and operational decision-making.
Position Responsibilities:
Leads the development and execution of the company's accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial information in accordance with
U.S. GAAP.
Oversees the execution of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, establishing clear deadlines, accountabilities, and review procedures that produce timely and reliable financial statements. Directs the preparation and analysis of balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for executive leadership and private equity stakeholders. Strengthens and maintains the company's internal control environment, accounting policies, approval processes, and financial procedures to safeguard assets, reduce risk, and support continued growth. Partners with the Chief Financial Officer and operating leaders on annual budgeting, periodic forecasting, cash flow planning, working capital management, and analysis of performance against established financial objectives. Drives the modernization and scalability of accounting processes through improved systems, automation, standardized reporting, disciplined data management, and effective use of the company's ERP platform. Leads, develops, and mentors the accounting team by establishing performance expectations, improving technical capabilities, allocating resources effectively, and creating clear accountability across the function. Coordinates and manages external audits, tax reporting support, lender requirements, insurance-related financial requests, and other compliance activities while maintaining productive relationships with external advisors and stakeholders.
Key Qualifications and Attributes:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline is required; a Certified Public Accountant designation is strongly preferred. Ten or more years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, including at least five years in an accounting leadership or Controller-level capacity. Thorough knowledge of
U.S. GAAP
, financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, internal controls, audit requirements, and technical accounting principles. Demonstrated ability to lead disciplined monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes while consistently meeting demanding reporting deadlines. Meaningful experience developing annual budgets , maintaining rolling forecasts, analyzing financial performance, and supporting working capital and cash flow management. Prior experience within a middle-market distribution , wholesale, logistics, or similarly inventory-intensive business environment is strongly preferred. Experience supporting a private equity-owned company, including sponsor reporting, lender compliance, growth initiatives, process improvement, and heightened performance expectations, is preferred. Proven leadership , organizational, and stakeholder communication capabilities, with the ability to develop accounting professionals and communicate financial matters effectively to executives, operating leaders, auditors, and private equity stakeholders.
Compensation:
$160,000 - $190,000 plus bonus potential
