About the Role As the Controller at Pathfinder, you'll provide financial leadership that helps our organization make informed decisions and move our mission forward. You'll lead the Accounting Team, oversee accurate and timely financial reporting, manage the annual financial audit and other financial audits, and partner with leaders across Pathfinder to provide the financial insight and support they need to succeed. Pathfinder, You Will:
Accounting Leadership & Team Development Provide overall leadership, guidance, and direction to the Accounting Team. Monitor staff performance and provide meaningful feedback, coaching, and direction. Mentor and develop team members, encouraging continued professional growth. Delegate projects and responsibilities based on team members' strengths and organizational priorities. Work collaboratively with Senior Leaders to determine the direction and priorities of the Accounting Department. Financial Reporting & Analysis Ensure monthly financial statements are prepared accurately and on time. Review financial statements and work with the Financial Analyst and Staff Accountant to make corrections or improvements as needed. Continuously evaluate the month-end close process and identify opportunities to improve efficiency. Lead the development of financial variance analysis and projection processes. Review monthly variance analysis before it is shared with Senior Leadership and the Executive Team. Partner with Senior Leaders to discuss department financials, budgets, and financial performance. Budgeting & Financial Planning Ensure Pathfinder's annual budget process is completed accurately and on schedule. Lead the Financial Analyst in managing the budget process, including timelines, training, and coordination with Senior Leaders. Meet with Senior Leaders to provide support, direction, and understanding of the budgeting process. Use financial information to help leaders make informed decisions and effectively manage resources. Audit & Regulatory Reporting Manage internal and external audits, including the Annual Financial Audit (Single Audit), Medicaid Group Home Cost Reports, Medicaid Audits, and other financial audits. Coordinate with the Accounting Team to ensure audit responsibilities are appropriately delegated and completed. Ensure auditors receive accurate and necessary information in a timely manner. File quarterly and annual reports with external agencies as required. Policies, Procedures & Internal Controls Maintain current Accounting Department policies and procedures. Lead the development and implementation of new procedures when needed. Ensure recurring Accounting functions have standard operating procedures that support business continuity. Review and update policies and procedures annually to maintain effective internal controls. Identify opportunities to strengthen processes, improve efficiency, and support continuous improvement. Collaboration & Organizational Support Build strong working relationships with Directors, Senior Leaders, Executives, and members of the Accounting Team. Translate financial information into useful insights that leaders can understand and apply. Provide financial guidance and information that supports Pathfinder's mission and organizational goals. Participate in Finance Committee meetings and other committees as requested. Collaborate across departments to help ensure Pathfinder's financial resources are used effectively. Empowerment Requirements:
Preferred Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Valid driver's license and current auto insurance required. 5 years' experience in the finance industry. 3 years' experience in leadership positions. Strong financial and accounting background, including an understanding of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow management, and general finance and budgeting. Ability to understand new issues quickly and make wise decisions. Ability to inspire confidence and create trust. Ability to work under pressure, plan personal workload effectively, and delegate. Experience with developmental disabilities, Medicaid, Early Head Start, and their associated revenue recognition is strongly preferred. Ability to speak, hear, and read the English language.
