This contract role will lead core accounting activities, provide steady oversight of monthly financial operations, and help maintain accurate reporting. The position is well suited to a hands-on, detail-oriented individual who can step into a fast-paced environment, strengthen controllership processes, and work effectively with both operational and finance stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Lead the month-end close process, ensuring financial results are completed accurately and on schedule. Oversee day-to-day controllership activities, including review of accounts, reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Coordinate payroll-related oversight in partnership with the existing processing structure to help ensure timely and accurate pay cycles. Support financial reporting needs for a construction-oriented business, with attention to job-related activity and operational performance. Organize, review, and maintain accounting and business documentation to support audit readiness and internal record accuracy. Compile and validate financial files, scanned records, and other supporting documents needed for reporting and compliance. Partner with leadership and back-office finance contacts to address open accounting items and maintain continuity during the interim assignment. Identify process gaps within routine accounting workflows and recommend practical improvements that strengthen control and efficiency Previous experience serving in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role in a contract or interim capacity. Direct accounting experience within the construction industry or a closely related project-based environment. Strong knowledge of month-end close, general ledger oversight, and financial controllership practices. Experience reviewing or supporting payroll operations in coordination with established processing teams. Ability to manage document control, document compilation, and scanned financial record organization with a high level of accuracy. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently. Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with operational leaders and finance stakeholders. Availability to support an on-site assignment in North Reading, Massachusetts.
