We are looking for an experienced Controller to join a growing organization in Beltsville, Maryland, in a fully onsite capacity. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who can provide strong financial oversight, guide an established team, and operate effectively in a public company setting. The role offers the chance to support a complex, evolving business with significant scale while partnering closely with leadership to maintain accurate reporting and compliance.
Responsibilities:
Direct the month-end close cycle to ensure deadlines are met and financial results are accurate and well supported.
Evaluate account reconciliations, financial statements, and related analyses to uphold reporting quality and consistency.
Oversee the day-to-day performance of the accounting function, ensuring workflows are organized and controls are followed.
Lead, coach, and review the work of a multi-person team across accounting and payroll operations.
Manage payroll oversight, including processes involving union and certified payroll requirements.
Maintain adnce to regulatory, reporting, and internal control standards within a public company environment.
Coordinate with the parent organization on financial submissions, approvals, and other required reporting activities.
Support accounting process continuity, knowledge transfer, and operational readiness during leadership transition and future system conversion efforts.
Active CPA designation is required.
Demonstrated experience serving at the Controller level with responsibility for team leadership and financial review.
Background in construction accounting is strongly preferred.
Prior experience in public accounting is highly valued.
Working knowledge of public company compliance and reporting expectations is required.
Familiarity with union payroll and certified payroll practices is preferred.
Experience with month-end close, staff supervision, and accounting systems such as Great Plains and Spectrum is beneficial.
