Description We are looking for an experienced Interim Assistant Controller to support a corporate accounting team within a manufacturing environment. This Long-term Contract opportunity is well suited for a hands-on, detail-oriented accounting specialist who brings strong month-end close expertise, sound judgment around financial controls, and the ability to work effectively in a hybrid on-site setting. The role will contribute to accurate financial reporting, maintain the integrity of general ledger activity, and partner closely with internal stakeholders on day-to-day accounting operations.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and record journal entries while ensuring supporting documentation is complete, accurate, and aligned with accounting policies.
• Lead key activities tied to the month-end close process, including review of account activity, timing of entries, and resolution of outstanding issues.
• Perform detailed reconciliations across balance sheet, bank, and general ledger accounts to maintain reliable financial records.
• Support the design, execution, and monitoring of internal controls to strengthen compliance and reduce reporting risk.
• Collaborate with the corporate accounting team in a hybrid work environment to address reporting needs and improve the flow of financial information.
• Use accounting platforms such as Great Plains, HFM, BlackLine, and Oracle to manage transactions, reconciliations, and reporting deliverables.
• Analyze account variances and investigate discrepancies, then recommend corrective actions to ensure financial accuracy.
• Assist with recurring and ad hoc reporting requests by organizing financial data and presenting clear, actionable insights.
• Contribute to process consistency across accounting operations while helping maintain timely and well-documented close activities. Requirements The ideal candidate will have the following skill set:
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including corporate or senior-level accounting responsibilities.
• Demonstrated experience with journal entries, general ledger management, and month-end close activities.
• Strong background in account reconciliation, including balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
• Working knowledge of internal controls and their application within day-to-day accounting processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analysis, reconciliation support, and financial reporting tasks.
• Experience with one or more accounting and reporting systems such as Great Plains, HFM, BlackLine, or Oracle.
• Ability to work on site in Ann Arbor, Michigan in a hybrid arrangement and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
