Job Description

About SkipChips SkipChips is a growing Automotive Protection Products company specializing in protecting new, luxury, performance, and high-end vehicles. Our team works with individual vehicle owners as well as many of the area's leading automotive dealerships to provide professional Paint Protection Film (PPF), Window Tint, Ceramic Coatings, Paint & Interior Protection, and other automotive protection services . SkipChips has experienced consistent growth and is entering another significant stage of expansion. We are adding locations, expanding existing facilities, introducing additional services, and continuing to grow our team and dealership partner network throughout the Twin Cities and surrounding markets. As our company becomes larger and more complex, we're looking for an experienced Controller to join our leadership team and take ownership of our internal accounting and financial reporting functions. This is an opportunity for the right person to help build the financial infrastructure and processes needed to support the next stage of a growing, multi-location automotive services company. The Position The Controller will be the primary internal leader responsible for the accuracy, organization, timeliness, and continued development of SkipChips' accounting and financial reporting. This is a hands-on Controller position . We're looking for someone who is equally comfortable reviewing financial statements with company leadership and digging into the accounting system to understand why a number doesn't look right. The Controller will work directly with our Managing Director and leadership team while also working closely with our existing fractional CFO partner, outside accounting professionals, banking partners, and other financial resources. The goal is to develop a strong internal finance function that provides leadership with accurate, timely, and increasingly sophisticated financial information as the company grows. Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Reporting The Controller will take ownership of the company's day-to-day accounting function, including: Managing and overseeing the monthly financial close process Preparing accurate and timely monthly financial statements Maintaining the general ledger and chart of accounts Reviewing balance sheet reconciliations Managing bank and credit card reconciliations Overseeing accounts payable and accounts receivable Monitoring customer and dealership receivables and collections Reviewing payroll reporting and payroll accounting Maintaining fixed-asset schedules Managing accruals, prepaid expenses, and other accounting adjustments Maintaining accurate financial records across multiple locations Coordinating with outside tax and accounting professionals Supporting year-end tax preparation, reviews, and other financial reporting requirements Multi-Location Financial Management As SkipChips expands, understanding the performance of each location will become increasingly important. The Controller will help develop and maintain financial reporting that allows leadership to understand: Revenue and profitability by location Labor costs by location Material and product costs Gross margins Operating expenses Location-level profitability Service and product-line profitability Budget versus actual performance Financial trends and opportunities for improvement Our goal is to move beyond simply understanding how the company performed overall and develop better visibility into where we're making money, where we're spending money, and where opportunities exist within the business . Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning The Controller will work with company leadership and our CFO to help develop: Annual operating budgets Department and location budgets Budget-versus-actual reporting Cash-flow reporting Financial forecasts Capital expenditure tracking New-location financial tracking Financial KPIs and management reporting Labor and staffing analysis Margin and profitability analysis The Controller will be responsible for ensuring that the underlying financial information used for strategic planning is accurate, organized, timely, and actionable. Internal Controls & Process Development We're not simply looking for someone to maintain the accounting processes that exist today. We want someone who can help us build better ones . As SkipChips grows, this person will help develop scalable financial processes and internal controls around: Invoicing Accounts receivable Accounts payable Purchasing Expense approvals Credit card usage Payroll Inventory and materials Cash management Financial reporting Location-level accountability Separation of financial responsibilities Fraud and error prevention The Controller should continually look for opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, automation, and visibility throughout the financial side of the organization. Leadership & Collaboration This position will work closely with our Managing Director, Operations Manager, General Managers, sales leadership, and other members of the SkipChips management team. You should be comfortable explaining financial information to leaders who may not have an accounting background. We don't want financial information to live only within the accounting department. We want our Controller to help management understand what the numbers mean and how those numbers relate to the decisions we're making throughout the company . The Controller will also work closely with our CFO on higher-level financial strategy, forecasting, expansion planning, banking relationships, capital decisions, and other strategic initiatives. As the company continues to grow, the Controller may also be responsible for building and managing additional accounting and administrative support staff. The Type of Person Who Will Succeed Here Technical accounting experience is important, but we're equally focused on finding the right person for our organization. Our Team Environment SkipChips has built its culture around a team-first, all-hands-on-deck mentality. We work hard, maintain high standards, and expect accountability, but we also want this to be a place where talented people enjoy coming to work.
We value:
Teamwork over egos Positive attitudes Accountability and dependability Clear communication Continuous improvement Quality and attention to detail Helping other departments succeed Building better systems as we grow Having fun while getting the job done The Controller will be an important member of that culture and our growing leadership team. Growth & Opportunity This isn't a position we're hiring simply because we need someone to manage today's accounting workload. We're building the financial function for where SkipChips is going next .
