$110,000 - $130,000 annually About Matlock's Used Parts Matlock's Used Parts has been family-owned and operated for over 80 years, growing from a single salvage yard into a multi-location, multi-state auto parts business with over 100 employees today. Now in its third generation of family leadership, Matlock's has built its reputation on knowing its customers and its inventory better than anyone else in the region and on treating employees like part of the family. Position Summary If you want full ownership of the accounting function, not just executing someone else's process but building and improving it, this could be the role for you. Matlock's Used Parts is looking for an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations and financial reporting. You'll manage the day-to-day accounting activities, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintain strong internal controls that support good decision-making across the business. Working closely with the CFO and leadership team, you'll play a key role in improving financial processes, strengthening reporting capabilities, and supporting the company's continued growth. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strategic thinking, but also a willingness to get into the transactional details when the work calls for it. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Close Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Manage the month-end and year-end close processes Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules Inventory & Cost Accounting Own inventory accounting, including valuation methodology Manage cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting and margin analysis in coordination with operations Team Leadership Supervise and develop accounting personnel, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff, including team members located internationally Establish clear processes, expectations, and performance standards Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement Internal Controls & Process Improvement Develop and maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve efficiency, including evaluation and implementation of accounting/ERP system improvements Support documentation of key accounting processes and procedures Cash Flow & AR/AP Oversight Monitor cash balances and short-term cash flow forecasts Oversee accounts receivable collections and accounts payable processes Strategic & Leadership Support Support the CFO in budgeting and forecasting activities Assist the CFO with KPI development and reporting Compliance & Regulatory Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements Maintain business personal property filings and other regulatory filings as needed Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a Controller or accounting-supervisor role Strong understanding of financial statements and accounting principles Experience managing month-end close and financial reporting processes Proficiency with QuickBooks Advanced Excel skills Proven ability to lead and develop staff Must pass pre-employment background check Preferred Qualifications CPA preferred, not required Experience evaluating or implementing ERP/accounting system upgrades Experience managing a distributed or international accounting team Background in a manufacturing, distribution, or inventory-intensive industry Benefits Company-paid health insurance coverage after 90 days Paid time off (PTO) 401(k) with company match Matlock's Used Cars & Parts is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
