This role is responsible for the financial integrity and performance of the plant and partners closely with the General Manager and Operations leadership to improve profitability, productivity, cash flow, and overall business performance.
The Plant Controller will oversee plant accounting, financial reporting, cost accounting, inventory, budgeting and forecasting, internal controls, and compliance. This role goes beyond reporting the numbersthe successful candidate understands the operational drivers behind financial results, identifies risks and opportunities, and provides actionable recommendations to support better business decisions.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & Business PartnershipServe as the primary financial partner to the General Manager and plant leadership team.
Analyze financial and operational performance, identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and recommend actions.
Lead financial and business performance reviews and communicate results and key drivers to plant and Corporate leadership.
Partner with Operations to evaluate the financial impact of production, labor, pricing, and other business decisions.
Financial Reporting, Planning & AnalysisOversee month-end and year-end close processes and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
Analyze financial results, trends, and variances and translate findings into actionable business recommendations.
Monitor revenue, margins, costs, labor, productivity, and profitability.
Cost Accounting & Manufacturing FinanceOversee cost accounting, standard costing, annual cost studies, job costing, and margin analysis.
Analyze material usage, labor, overhead, manufacturing variances, and production costs.
Partner with Operations to improve labor efficiency, productivity, manufacturing performance, and profitability.
Inventory & Working CapitalOversee inventory accounting and analysis for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
Ensure proper inventory valuation, reserves, and supporting documentation.
Oversee physical inventory and cycle count processes and resolution of discrepancies.
Controls, Compliance & CapitalMaintain strong internal controls, segregation of duties, and financial approval processes.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable regulations.
Oversee fixed asset accounting and capital project tracking.
Support audits and address audit findings and control deficiencies.
Continuous Improvement & LeadershipIdentify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, systems, controls, and automation.
Use technology and data to improve the speed, accuracy, and usefulness of financial information.
Lead, develop, and coach the plant accounting team.
Establish a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and strong financial discipline.
QualificationsMasters degree or CPA preferred. 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Prior experience as a Plant Controller preferred.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, inventory accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Experience with manufacturing operations, job costing, standard costing, and manufacturing variances.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to connect financial results to operational performance.
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
Proven ability to partner effectively with Operations and senior leadership.
Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills.
Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting or business intelligence tools.
Demonstrated ability to identify process improvement and automation opportunities.
