Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our finance team. This pivotal role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial integrity and operational efficiency of our organization. As an integral part of our accounting leadership, you will oversee various accounting functions, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and support strategic financial initiatives. Your expertise in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and advanced accounting software will drive accuracy and transparency across all financial activities. This role is ideal for a motivated professional eager to make a meaningful impact within a mission-driven organization. Responsibilities Manage and oversee general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, and journal entries to ensure accuracy and completeness. Prepare, analyze, and interpret financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, adhering to GAAP standards. Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and bank reconciliations regularly to maintain data integrity. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), securities law, and governmental accounting standards. Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and audit trail maintenance. Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support organizational decision-making processes. Mentor junior accounting staff by providing guidance on technical accounting issues like double entry bookkeeping, technical accounting standards, and financial software utilization such as PeopleSoft, QuickBooks, Quicken, and other financial tools. Qualifications Proven experience in accounting or finance roles with a strong background in financial reporting, corporate accounting, or governmental accounting. Demonstrated expertise with financial concepts including GAAP principles, double entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, and balance sheet reconciliation. Proficiency in financial software such as PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel including VLOOKUP function), QuickBooks, Quicken, and other relevant tools for spreadsheets and data analysis. Knowledge of regulatory compliance frameworks including SOX requirements and non-profit accounting standards if applicable. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data through Excel data analysis techniques like VLOOKUPs and account analysis. Excellent communication skills for preparing clear financial reports and collaborating across teams. Experience mentoring or training team members on technical accounting practices is preferred. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA or equivalent certification is highly desirable. Pay:
$75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
