Job Description

Senior Controller for Electrical Contracting Company – Donald, Oregon Acumen Executive Search is proud to partner with Bear Electric to find their next Senior Controller to lead all Accounting and Finance functions while serving as a strategic partner to the President. This highly visible leadership position will play a critical role in guiding a well-established, second-generation family-owned company through its next chapter of growth, modernization, and leadership transition. Bear Electric is a respected electrical contracting company with approximately 70 employees serving residential, commercial, industrial, and low-voltage markets throughout the region. This new role serves as the senior-most Accounting and Finance leader, overseeing accounting, financial planning, reporting, and administrative functions. The Senior Controller will work closely with the President to strengthen financial processes, enhance reporting, support strategic decision-making, and help position the company for future growth.

Key Responsibilities Serve as the top Accounting and Finance leader for the organization Provide strategic financial leadership and guidance to the President Oversee all accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll oversight, payroll tax reporting and reconciliation, and general accounting activities Prepare payroll tax reports, reconcile quarterly payroll activity for state and IRS filings, and oversee annual W-2 and 1099 reporting Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and annual planning processes Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports Manage cash flow, working capital, and overall financial performance Oversee aging reports, receivables management, and collections processes Conduct job costing analysis and provide insight into project profitability Develop financial models and business analysis to support decision-making Evaluate operational costs and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and profitability Maintain internal controls, financial processes, and accounting policies Ensure compliance with all financial, tax, regulatory, and reporting requirements Lead annual audit activities and coordinate with external accounting partners Support executive leadership with financial analysis related to strategic initiatives and growth opportunities Evaluate and recommend accounting software and financial system improvements Drive financial modernization efforts and help transition the company from legacy processes Provide leadership and oversight for accounting, administrative, and human resources functions Partner with leadership to develop scalable financial systems that support future growth Strengthen communication and financial transparency across departments Qualifications 10+ years of progressive Accounting and/or Finance experience 5+ years of leadership experience managing accounting or finance teams Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Commerce, or related field CPA, CMA, or other professional accounting designation preferred Construction, electrical contracting, or project-based accounting experience highly preferred Strong job costing and project profitability analysis experience Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and analysis (FP&A) Knowledge of financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and internal controls Experience leading accounting teams and developing staff Experience with accounting software implementations or financial systems modernization initiatives Experience with QuickBooks and/or ERP systems preferred Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite Excellent analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills Why Join Bear Electric?
