Pawleys Island, South Carolina — In Office Position Overview Connexus is seeking a highly organized, analytical, and hands-on Director of Finance to lead the company's financial operations, cash management, forecasting, reporting, and accounting controls. Connexus is a fast-paced, growing technology startup, and we are looking for someone who is energized by that environment. This is not a role for someone who wants to operate within a narrow lane or wait for direction. We need a proactive, highly accountable leader who is willing to roll up their sleeves, move quickly, solve problems, and take ownership of whatever is needed to help the business succeed. This role is responsible for ensuring that Connexus has accurate, timely financial information and clear visibility into both current financial performance and future cash requirements. The Director of Finance will oversee the daily financial processes of the organization, ensure appropriate follow-up and accountability across accounts receivable and accounts payable, and maintain accurate reconciliations and financial reporting. The ideal candidate thrives in an entrepreneurial environment, brings a strong sense of urgency to their work, and can move easily between detailed financial execution and higher-level financial planning. Work Location & Schedule This is an in-office position based in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. The Director of Finance is expected to work from the Connexus office 5 days per week. Standard working hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may start earlier or end later depending upon the requirements that day. Consistent in-office presence is an important component of this role given the level of collaboration, financial oversight, and interaction with company leadership required. Key ResponsibilitiesCash Management & Financial Oversight Review company cash balances and banking activity daily and maintain clear visibility into available cash. Monitor incoming and outgoing cash activity and identify unexpected transactions, timing issues, or cash constraints. Maintain a current understanding of the company's cash position across operating accounts. Develop and maintain short- and long-term cash flow projections. Proactively identify upcoming cash needs, potential shortfalls, and changes in expected collections or expenditures. Provide leadership with regular updates regarding cash position, runway, and expected financial performance. Escalate potential financial risks before they become material issues. Accounts Receivable & Collections Ensure customer payments are accurately and promptly posted to the appropriate accounts and invoices. Oversee accounts receivable activity and maintain accurate aging reports. Ensure the finance team consistently follows up on outstanding invoices and overdue balances. Establish clear collection procedures, follow-up schedules, and escalation processes. Personally manage or escalate significant or aging receivables when appropriate. Monitor customer payment trends and proactively identify potential collection risks. Maintain accountability across the team for timely and consistent collections activity. Forecasting & Financial Planning Own and regularly update the company's financial forecast. Reforecast revenue, expenses, cash flow, and other financial projections based on actual business performance and changing business conditions. Compare actual results against budget and forecast and explain material variances. Work closely with leadership to understand changes in staffing, customers, contracts, pricing, timing, and expenses that may impact financial projections. Maintain scenario-based financial models when appropriate to help leadership evaluate potential outcomes. Support annual budgeting and ongoing financial planning. Continuously improve forecast accuracy as the business grows and evolves. Accounting & Reconciliations Ensure timely and accurate completion of bank, credit card, balance sheet, and other financial reconciliations. Review reconciliations and investigate discrepancies or unusual transactions. Ensure financial transactions are properly categorized and recorded. Oversee month-end and year-end financial close processes. Maintain accurate general ledger records and supporting financial documentation. Ensure financial records are complete, organized, and audit-ready. Identify and correct accounting discrepancies promptly. Accounts Payable & Expense Management Oversee accounts payable processes and ensure vendor payments are accurate and appropriately scheduled. Monitor upcoming payment obligations and incorporate them into cash forecasting. Review expenses for accuracy and appropriate coding. Identify unusual expenses, duplicate payments, unexpected cost increases, or other discrepancies. Help ensure company expenditures remain aligned with budgets and financial priorities. Partner with leadership to improve visibility into company spending and operating costs. Financial Reporting & Leadership Support Prepare and maintain accurate monthly financial reporting, including income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, accounts receivable, and other key financial reports. Develop concise financial reporting that allows leadership to quickly understand company performance and financial position. Track key financial and operating metrics, including revenue, collections, recurring revenue, expenses, gross margin, cash flow, and runway. Provide financial analysis to support pricing decisions, hiring decisions, customer agreements, investments, and other strategic initiatives. Translate financial data into clear insights and actionable recommendations for company leadership. Be prepared to answer financial questions quickly and accurately using current data. Financial Controls & Process Improvement Establish and maintain appropriate financial controls and approval processes. Ensure finance procedures are documented and consistently followed. Identify opportunities to automate or streamline accounting and finance processes. Build scalable processes appropriate for a growing technology company. Maintain accurate supporting documentation for financial transactions and reporting. Coordinate with external accountants, tax professionals, auditors, banking partners, payroll providers, and other financial partners as needed. Continuously evaluate whether current financial processes are meeting the needs of the business and improve them where necessary. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. 4+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, with experience owning financial operations preferred. Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, cash flow management, and financial forecasting. Demonstrated experience managing accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciliations, and month-end close. Strong financial modeling and forecasting skills. Advanced proficiency in Excel and/or Google Sheets. Experience with accounting and financial management systems. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies quickly. Ability to prioritize effectively and operate in a fast-moving environment with changing priorities. Strong communication skills and the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial leaders. High level of ownership, judgment, confidentiality, and accountability. Experience in a startup, technology company, or other high-growth environment is strongly preferred. Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will be someone who does not simply report what happened financially but actively manages the company's financial position. They will know where cash stands today, what is expected to come in, what needs to go out, which customers have not paid, what has changed from the forecast, and what leadership needs to know before an issue develops. Because Connexus is a growing technology startup, this person must be driven, resourceful, adaptable, and comfortable working with urgency. We value people who see something that needs to be done and take ownership of it rather than waiting to be asked. The right candidate will be comfortable with changing priorities, building processes where they do not yet exist, solving problems independently, and stepping outside of a traditional job description when the business requires it. This is a role for someone who enjoys being close to the business, wants their work to have a visible impact, and is motivated by helping build a company rather than simply maintaining an established finance function. The Director of Finance must be equally comfortable doing the work of posting payments, completing reconcilations, and stepping back to provide leadership with a clear, accurate, and forward-looking picture of where the business is headed financially.
