Role Overview The Controller owns day-to-day accounting operations and leads the accounting team to deliver accurate, timely financial information. Reporting to the CFO, this leader is accountable for the close process, consolidated financial reporting, internal controls, audit execution, and accounting policies within the assigned scope. The role requires a hands-on leader who can resolve complex accounting issues, develop the team, and improve processes across a global, multi-entity business. Core Responsibilities Lead accounting operations across general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting; establish clear ownership, priorities, and performance standards. Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including the close calendar, journal entry approvals, balance sheet reconciliations, and timely resolution of accounting issues. Oversee global consolidation, intercompany reconciliations and eliminations, and foreign currency accounting in coordination with international accounting teams. Deliver accurate financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with US GAAP; explain significant movements, accounting judgments, and emerging risks to senior leadership. Own technical accounting research and documentation, recommend accounting conclusions, and implement new or revised accounting policies in partnership with the CFO. Oversee accounting for revenue, inventory and cost of goods sold, reserves, fixed assets, leases, and other significant balance sheet and income statement areas. Maintain and strengthen internal controls, approval authorities, and segregation of duties; identify control gaps and lead remediation. Oversee payment runs and credit memo approvals in accordance with company policies; support effective receivables management and working capital discipline. Lead annual audit preparation and execution, manage auditor requests and deliverables, and resolve audit findings in coordination with the CFO. Oversee global tax compliance calendars and supporting accounting schedules in coordination with external tax providers and international teams. Leadership and Business Partnership Lead, coach, and develop accounting managers and staff; manage workload, hiring needs, succession planning, and annual performance reviews. Partner with FP&A to align actual results, reporting definitions, and information flow; provide reliable accounting data and explanations that support forecasting and business decisions. Work with business leaders to address operational needs, evaluate the accounting impact of new initiatives, and communicate financial risks and requirements clearly. Own preparation and ongoing accuracy of the 13-week cash flow forecast for the CFO, incorporating input from relevant business partners. Process Improvement and Systems Lead improvements to close speed, reporting quality, and accounting efficiency; establish measurable goals and track results. Maintain clear accounting policies, procedures, and audit-ready documentation; standardize workflows across entities where appropriate. Lead accounting requirements for ERP enhancements, automation, and system changes. ZAGG currently uses Great Plains. Manage accounting projects, set timelines and resources, and deliver ad hoc analysis and research for senior leadership. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; master's degree. Active CPA license preferred. At least 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful responsibility for close, financial reporting, audits, and internal controls; at least 3 years leading accounting teams. Public accounting audit experience, preferably Big Four, combined with corporate accounting leadership experience preferred. Strong knowledge of US GAAP, technical accounting, and multi-entity consolidation; experience with international operations and teams strongly preferred. Proven success managing and developing an accounting team, ideally five or more people, and holding teams accountable for deadlines and quality. Experience with enterprise ERP systems such as Great Plains, NetSuite, Oracle, or SAP, along with strong Excel and analytical skills. Experience with inventory, consumer products, and wholesale or e-commerce accounting preferred. Strong judgment, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills; ability to translate complex accounting matters into clear business communication.
