Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the accounting function for our Richmond operation. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is equally comfortable managing the bigger financial picture and getting into the details when needed. The Controller will oversee a small accounting team, currently consisting of one Bookkeeper, and will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial operations. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 1-2+ years of Controller experience , strong technical accounting knowledge, and the ability to independently identify and resolve issues within the financials. Key Responsibilities Oversee the day-to-day accounting function, while remaining hands-on with key accounting activities and financial processes. Manage and develop the Bookkeeper, providing direction, oversight, and appropriate checks and balances. Oversee contract billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, and general ledger activity . Review financial transactions and reconciliations for accuracy and investigate discrepancies or unusual activity. Lead the monthly close process and ensure financials are accurate and completed on a timely basis. Review the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow each month, identify trends or discrepancies, and determine the appropriate action needed. Prepare and/or review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports in accordance with GAAP and company standards. Handle more complex accounting responsibilities, including year-end adjustments and other technical accounting matters . Understand and manage the company's unique accounting structure, including separate payables associated with independent contractors as well as traditional business/vendor payables. Provide financial insight and reporting to office leadership, helping translate financial information into actionable business decisions. Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance. Coordinate with City Wide Corporate and other internal resources as needed. Support internal and external audits and provide requested schedules and documentation. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and efficiencies. As the business grows, assume additional accounting responsibilities and ultimately support the financial operations of multiple locations.
