COVR Cardiovascular Operating Room Technician

Job Description

Category Nursing - CVOR Tech Job Type Contract This contract opportunity seeks an experienced CVOR Tech with a strong background in both CVOR and cardiothoracic procedures. Candidates should be confident assisting with CABG, valve replacements, VATS, and robotic chest surgeries, and must be comfortable transitioning to general OR support if cardiothoracic volume is low. This crucial member of the surgical team helps maintain the highest standards of sterile technique, patient safety, and OR efficiency.
Schedule/Hours:
Choice of 5 eight-hour shifts or 4 ten-hour shifts (7:00a-3:30p or 7:00a-5:30p) 1-2 call shifts weekly (13.5 or 15.5 hours per shift) 1-2 weekends per month on call (24 hours Saturday and 24 hours Sunday)
Qualifications:
Certified Surgical Technologist, NBSTSA required BLS certification required Recent, demonstrable CVOR and cardiothoracic experience (CABG, valve replacements, VATS, robotic chest procedures, and related cases) Strong knowledge of sterile technique, infection control, and operating room practices
Responsibilities:
Scrub and maintain a sterile, organized operative field at all times Assist surgeons with gowning, gloving, draping, passing instruments, and anticipating needs during complex cardiothoracic surgeries Maintain accurate counts of surgical items, prepare cases using preference cards, and resolve any supply or equipment conflicts Practice safe handling and identification of all surgical specimens Provide support during operative suite set-up, break-down, and turnover Participate in routine call rotations and maintain flexibility with workflow assignments Collaborate effectively as an integral member of the OR team, acting as a resource for newer staff when needed Support patient care and safety through vigilant observation of potential hazards and adherence to best practices If you thrive in high-acuity surgical environments and bring advanced cardiothoracic skills, apply today to take the next step in your career with this essential role.
