PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Ombishkaa Care Coordinator is part of the Ombishkaa Reentry team and works collaboratively to welcome members back into the community through advocacy, mentoring, peer support, and culturally grounded services. The Ombishkaa initiative empowers community members with resources and Indigenous approaches that promote stability, support individual healing journeys, increase self-awareness of the impacts of intergenerational trauma, and strengthen healthy reconnection with family, culture, and community. The Ombishkaa Care Coordinator serves as a community advocate who encourages members to recognize their personal strengths, self-expertise, and self-leadership. This position collaborates with internal departments and external partners to provide coordinated support services based on each member's needs. Responsibilities include active listening, mentoring, case coordination, transportation support, housing assistance, systems advocacy, and referrals to legal, medical, employment, recovery, and community resources. This position will have a strong focus on supporting men's programming, including facilitating men's groups, hosting meetings, mentoring participants, coordinating cultural and recovery-focused activities, and helping create a supportive environment for program members during reentry and recovery.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Associate's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Behavioral Health, or a related field and relevant work experience required.
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred.
- Peer Support Specialist Certification preferred, or willingness to obtain certification.
- Three to five years of experience in community reentry, behavioral health, substance use recovery, housing services, case management, corrections, or related fields.
- Experience facilitating groups, educational workshops, community meetings, or support programming preferred.
- Experience providing mentorship, advocacy, and member-centered support services.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of vehicle insurance.
- Ability to pass required criminal background checks.
Knowledge of community resources, recovery supports, crisis response services, cultural teachings, protocols, and ceremonies. Awareness and experience navigating probation, parole, detention, and criminal justice systems. Ability to build trust and maintain professional relationships with members, families, staff, and community partners. Strong communication, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to organize activities, coordinate groups of people, facilitate meetings, and support group programming. Computer skills needed to enter data, maintain records, and prepare reports and schedules. Maintain accurate statistical and program data to meet case management, funding, reporting, billing, and invoicing requirements. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic recordkeeping systems.

- Cultural sensitivity and knowledge of Anishinaabe worldviews and values, or willingness to learn and incorporate them into practice.
