Job Description
At Buda Oaks, we believe adventure doesn't retire—and neither does a person's ability to experience joy, purpose, connection, and discovery. We're looking for a Memory Care Coordinator who believes the same. This isn't your typical activities job. You won't simply print a monthly calendar, set out some crafts, and call it a day. You'll create experiences that give our residents something to look forward to, something to talk about, and something to be proud of. From themed adventures and culinary experiences to music, games, celebrations, fitness, art, reminiscing, community outings, and completely unexpected moments of fun—you'll be the creative force behind programming designed specifically for people living with dementia.
THE ADVENTURE AWAITS
As our Memory Care Coordinator, you will dream it, plan it, create it, and bring it to life. You'll develop and facilitate a dynamic memory care program that is engaging, purposeful, and person-centered. You'll get to know each resident well enough to understand what makes them laugh, what music makes them smile, what memories they love to share, and what experiences make them feel successful. You'll turn ordinary days into extraordinary ones. Maybe that means transforming lunch into a trip around the world. Maybe it means creating a "virtual hiking society" and taking residents on an adventure to the Great Barrier Reef. Maybe it means bringing back the 1950s for a nostalgic afternoon, throwing a themed party, creating an art experience, hosting a resident competition, or simply sitting beside a resident who needs a little encouragement to join the fun. You'll learn that sometimes the smallest moments create the biggest memories.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Create, coordinate, and facilitate a comprehensive memory care programming calendar that promotes engagement, purpose, socialization, movement, creativity, reminiscence, and fun. Develop programming based on residents' individual interests, histories, abilities, preferences, and life experiences. Lead daily activities with energy, enthusiasm, patience, and genuine warmth. Create innovative themed programs, special events, celebrations, and resident experiences. Incorporate music, art, exercise, games, cooking, sensory experiences, current events, reminiscing, education, spirituality, and community connections into programming. Collaborate with our culinary, care, and leadership teams to turn ideas into memorable experiences. Encourage residents to participate in meaningful roles—not simply attend activities. Build relationships with residents and families and learn the stories that make each person unique. Adapt activities for different cognitive and physical abilities so everyone has an opportunity to participate and succeed. Bring creativity to the unexpected. If something isn't working, change it. If a resident isn't engaged, find another way in. Coordinate outside entertainers, community partners, volunteers, and special guests. Help create a memory care environment that feels alive, purposeful, welcoming, and fun. Document participation and programming as required and maintain compliance with applicable regulations and community standards. Participate as an active member of the Buda Oaks team and jump in wherever needed.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for someone who is creative, energetic, compassionate, organized, and just a little bit unconventional. You might be an experienced Activity Director, Life Enrichment Director, Recreation Coordinator, Teacher, Event Planner, Camp Director, Theater Professional, Artist, Musician, or simply someone who has discovered that your superpower is making people smile. More important than your previous job title, we want someone who: Loves older adults. Understands—or is excited to learn about—dementia and memory care. Is comfortable leading a room and capturing people's attention. Can turn an idea into an experience. Has a creative mind and isn't afraid to think outside the box. Is comfortable being silly, dancing, singing, dressing up, getting messy, and occasionally looking ridiculous if it makes a resident smile. Has the patience to meet people where they are. Is observant enough to recognize when a resident needs encouragement, a different approach, or simply companionship. Can organize details without losing sight of the people behind them. Is dependable, positive, and willing to roll up their sleeves. Can work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team. Believes that people living with dementia are still people with interests, personalities, preferences, abilities, and a desire to experience life.
WHY BUDA OAKS?
Because we don't believe aging means the end of adventure. We believe our residents deserve experiences—not just activities. They deserve laughter. They deserve purpose. They deserve to be celebrated. And they deserve someone who wakes up every morning thinking about how to make their day a little more meaningful. If you're looking for a job where you can sit behind a desk and check activities off a calendar, this probably isn't the job for you. If you're looking for a position where your creativity, personality, compassion, and imagination can make a genuine difference in the lives of older adults every single day… We should talk.
