Orthodontics Position Summary We are seeking a skilled, dependable, and patient-focused Orthodontic Dental Assistant to join our orthodontic practice in Maryland. The Orthodontic Dental Assistant will work closely with the orthodontist and clinical team to provide high-quality patient care and support efficient day-to-day clinical operations. The ideal candidate will have previous orthodontic or dental assisting experience, excellent interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to provide compassionate care to children, adolescents, and adults. Key Responsibilities Assist the orthodontist during examinations, consultations, adjustments, and orthodontic procedures. Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, equipment, and materials prior to patient appointments. Seat patients and prepare them for orthodontic treatment. Assist with placement and removal of orthodontic appliances as permitted by Maryland law and within the individual's training and certification. Assist with archwire changes, orthodontic adjustments, impressions, scans, and other clinical procedures as permitted. Take dental radiographs when appropriately trained, certified, and authorized under Maryland requirements. Obtain digital impressions, intraoral photographs, scans, and other diagnostic records. Prepare orthodontic materials and instruments for procedures. Educate patients and parents/guardians regarding oral hygiene, appliance care, retainers, elastics, and post-treatment instructions. Maintain accurate and complete patient records and document treatment information in the electronic dental record. Follow infection-control, sterilization, OSHA, HIPAA, and practice safety protocols. Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments and treatment areas between patients. Maintain appropriate inventory of orthodontic supplies and notify management when supplies need to be reordered. Assist with emergency orthodontic visits, including loose or broken appliances, as directed by the orthodontist. Help maintain an organized, efficient, and patient-friendly clinical environment. Communicate professionally with patients, families, orthodontists, dental professionals, and other members of the practice. Perform additional orthodontic assisting duties within the individual's authorized scope of practice under Maryland law. Qualifications Dental Radiation Technologist Dental Assistant qualified in Orthodontics High school diploma or GED required. Previous dental assisting experience preferred; orthodontic assisting experience strongly preferred . Maryland Board recognition/certification appropriate to the orthodontic duties being performed, as required. Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or required based upon applicable Maryland regulations and job responsibilities. Knowledge of orthodontic terminology, instruments, materials, appliances, and infection-control procedures. Experience with digital dental imaging, intraoral scanners, orthodontic software, and electronic dental records preferred. Strong communication and customer-service skills. Ability to work effectively with children, teenagers, adults, and their families. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work efficiently in a busy, fast-paced orthodontic practice. Reliable, professional, team-oriented, and committed to excellent patient care. Preferred Experience 1+ years of orthodontic dental assisting experience. Experience assisting with braces, aligners, retainers, impressions, digital scans, and orthodontic records. Experience working in a high-volume orthodontic or pediatric/orthodontic practice. Familiarity with orthodontic practice-management and imaging software. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods. Ability to bend, reach, and position patients and equipment as needed. Manual dexterity necessary to handle dental instruments and orthodontic materials. Ability to lift and move supplies and equipment consistent with the requirements of the position. IND2
