Dental Assistant Responsibilities Welcome customers in the dental office Prepare customers for treatments or checkups ensuring their comfort Make required entries to the patient record accurately and consistently Select and set up instruments, equipment and material needed Assist the dentist through 4-handed dentistry Undertake lab tasks as instructed Provide patients with oral hygiene and post-operative care instructions Keep the dental rooms clean and well-stocked Sterilize instruments according to regulations Assist hygienists with patient care, charting new-patients, obtaining x-rays, assist with perio-charting, polishing, and child prophies Schedule appointments Prepare information needed for treatment pre-authorizations Maintain accurate patient records and assist with payment procedures Dental Assistant Skills Knowledge and experience in dental assisting required Such knowledge and experience includes: familiarity with dental instruments, sterilization methods, non-surgical tasks like coronal polishing, and an understanding of health & safety regulations Solid computer skills required, must be able to acclimate to new patient management software and technologies Excellent communication and people skills Ability to work well in a team environment that consists of members with varying backgrounds, approaches, and personalities. Attention to detail Well-organized, reliable, and flexible High school diploma; graduating from dental assistant program is preferred Additional certification or training is an asset (e.g. EFDA)
